Independent Contractor - Forestry Auditor

Job Overview

Independent Contract – Forestry Lead Auditor position at NSF. 20–30 audit days per year across North America for SFI Forest Management, SFI Fiber Sourcing, PEFC, FSC, ATFS, and Chain of Custody programs. Flexible scheduling. Contract role.

Responsibilities

• Manage, plan, and execute all phases of third‑party audits.
• Lead audits in SFI Forest Management, SFI Fiber Sourcing, PEFC Chain of Custody, FSC Chain of Custody, and ATFS.
• Maintain at least 20–30 audit days per year.
• Prepare audit reports and communicate findings.
• Maintain inspector certification and licensing.

Qualifications

• Valid Inspector certificate and Forester license.
• Certification in PEFC, SFI programs or equivalent.
• Professional degree in forest science, natural resource management, or related field; advanced degrees preferred.
• Experience in implementing or auditing sustainable forestry, environmental, product or quality management system standards (SFI, PEFC, FSC).
• Experience with internal or external audits of forestry or environmental standards.
• Strong written and verbal communication, organizational and interpersonal skills.
• PC or laptop for audit documentation.
• Business or professional entity preferred.
