Patient Account Representative

The primary purpose of this position is to maximize revenue to the Health Department by making sure all medical billing is accurate, correctly coded, entered and billed efficiently and in a timely manner while providing excellent customer service to clients in regard to services provided and financial responsibility. Review and prepare encounters for electronic and/or paper filing. This position is responsible for the on-going maintenance of customers in the Debt Setoff Program. Working out payment plans, taking payments and educating customers on their financial responsibilities. Verify insurance and follow up on denied claims. Review LabCorp invoices to ensure all customers who had Medicaid were billed. Follow up on LabCorp third party billing letters. This position is primarily responsible for immunization, child health, STI and refugee billing but must know how to do all program billing. Medical Nutrition Therapy Billing Graduation from high school or GED required, and demonstrated possession of knowledge, skills, and abilities gained through at least two years of clerical office experience, preferably in a medical setting or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Preferred Qualifications Fluent in both Spanish and English, both oral and written. Previous medical billing experience. Knowledge of ICD coding, CPT codes, and the use of billing modifiers. General knowledge of office procedures, methods and practices. Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to use correct spelling, punctuation and specialized vocabulary; ability to proofread. General knowledge of office accounting and record-keeping procedures. Good mathematical skills are necessary for the money handling portion and balancing of patient accounts. Aptitude to learn and apply a variety of guidelines. Ability to use a variety of office equipment. Excellent computer skills. Capable of working with people with courtesy and tact. Ability to gather and give information and instructions. Aptitude for dealing with numbers and statistics. The ability to adapt to frequent change and multi-tasking skills are essential to this position. Ability to make sound judgments and when in question will consult with supervisor for guidance.
