We are excited to offer an opportunity for a dedicated Inpatient Mental Health Psychologist to join the Long Beach VA Healthcare System. As a key member of our inpatient mental health team, you ll make a real impact in the lives of Veterans facing serious mental health and medical challenges.

Practice environment This is a full-time inpatient role at the Long Beach VA Medical Center. You will be embedded on the Inpatient Mental Health Units, working side-by-side with psychiatrists, social workers, nurses, pharmacists, and rehab therapists to deliver coordinated, Veteran-centered care.
Key responsibilities
• Perform psychological evaluations to clarify diagnoses and guide personalized treatment plans.
• Deliver evidence-based therapies, including individual and group psychotherapy, plus education for families and care partners.
• Lead psychosocial and psychotherapeutic treatment planning, shaping programming that supports recovery.
• Complete safety plans and suicide risk assessments, and document care clearly and on time.
• Contribute to program development, quality and safety projects, and unit/service committees.
• Provide consultation to other VA staff caring for Veterans on the inpatient units.
• Teach and supervise psychology trainees and lead educational sessions within the Psychology Training Program.
Schedule and call
• Monday Friday, 8:00 a.m. 4:30 p.m., full-time on-site at Long Beach VA.
• No after-hours call.
Academic and professional growth
• Active involvement in training predoctoral and postdoctoral psychology trainees.
• Opportunities for teaching, mentorship, and scholarly or quality-improvement work
aligned with your interests.
Basic qualifications
• Doctoral degree in Psychology (PhD or PsyD) from an accredited program.
• Completion of an APA-accredited internship.
• Full, current, unrestricted licensure as a psychologist in a U.S. jurisdiction.
• Strong background in evidence-based assessment and treatment for serious mental
illness, mood and anxiety disorders, and substance use disorders.
Preferred / other
• Experience in inpatient or intensive mental health settings and interdisciplinary
teams is highly valued.
• Board certification is welcome but not required.
• Licensed recent graduates and current trainees are encouraged to apply.
• Due to VA policy, non-citizens are not being considered for this role.
