Role
We are seeking a Hardware Engineering Manager to lead the development of our hardware platforms and grow a high-performing multidisciplinary engineering team. This individual will be responsible for driving the technical direction, execution, and delivery of complex inspection systems while fostering collaboration across engineering disciplines and business functions.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on engineering leader who enjoys solving difficult technical challenges, developing engineers, and operating in a fast-paced startup environment where adaptability, ownership, and sound judgment are critical.
Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and grow a multidisciplinary hardware engineering team spanning systems, mechanical, mechatronics, and ultrasonic engineering.
- Drive and project manage the technical direction and execution of hardware development projects from concept through deployment.
- Define hardware architectures and evaluate design tradeoffs to ensure solutions meet performance, reliability, manufacturability, and cost objectives.
- Collaborate closely with software, algorithms, product, and field teams to develop integrated system solutions.
- Establish project priorities, allocate resources, and balance competing business and technical objectives.
- Guide the development of new technologies, products, and customer-specific solutions.
- Review designs, test plans, risk assessments, and technical documentation to ensure engineering rigor and quality.
- Lead root-cause investigations and resolution of complex technical issues encountered during development, manufacturing, and customer deployments.
- Work directly with customers, partners, and suppliers to understand requirements, evaluate solutions, and support strategic initiatives.
- Identify technical risks and drive mitigation strategies throughout the product development lifecycle.
- Develop engineering processes and best practices that improve execution while maintaining startup agility.
- Communicate technical plans, project status, risks, and recommendations to leadership and cross-functional stakeholders.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Physics, or a related technical discipline.
- 10+ years of experience developing complex hardware systems.
- 3+ years of experience leading engineering teams or managing technical projects.
- Demonstrated experience working across multiple engineering disciplines, such as systems, mechanical, electrical, controls, automation, mechatronics, or related fields.
- Proven track record of delivering products from concept through validation, deployment, and customer support.
- Strong technical problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to effectively engage technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Experience working in fast-paced environments with evolving priorities and high levels of ambiguity.
Nice to haves
- Advanced degree in Engineering, Physics, or a related technical field.
- Experience developing capital equipment, industrial automation systems, robotics platforms, semiconductor equipment, or other complex electromechanical products.
- Experience with ultrasonic, sensing, imaging, inspection, or nondestructive evaluation technologies.
- Experience leading multidisciplinary teams in a startup or high-growth environment.
- Familiarity with product development processes including requirements definition, design reviews, risk management, verification, and validation.
- Experience supporting customer deployments and field issue resolution.
- Demonstrated success building engineering organizations and developing technical leaders.
- Knowledge of battery manufacturing, quality inspection systems, or advanced manufacturing technologies.
