Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA) - School Based

Under supervision of a physical therapist, provide school-based physical therapy services to students in educational settings.

Support functional mobility, gross motor skills, and participation in classroom activities; collaborate with school staff to assist with achievable objectives.

Responsibilities

• Implement individualized treatment plans for students under PT supervision
• Assist with mobility training, balance, strength, and functional activities
• Support classroom participation and functional goals within the school day
• Assist with equipment management and seating/positioning guidance
• Document progress and communicate with the supervising PT and school team
• Educate students, families, and school staff on home exercise programs and safety
• Maintain a safe, organized treatment environment in the school setting

Qualifications

Associate degree from an ACOTE-accredited Physical Therapy Assistant program.

Licensed as a Physical Therapy Assistant in the practicing state.

• CPR/BLS certification

Experience working with pediatric populations and school-based therapy is preferred; strong collaboration with educators and families.

Experience

• Experience providing PT services in pediatric or school-based settings
• Experience collaborating with teachers and school staff

Preferred

• Experience with assistive technology and adaptive equipment in schools
• Bilingual abilities

Work Environment

School-based setting with regular school hours and possible after-school meetings; collaboration within a multidisciplinary school team; documentation in district health or EHR systems.

Travel between campuses or buildings may be required; emphasis on supporting students within the classroom and gym environments.
