Group Leader - Supply Chain Operations

Location: Flint, MI
Shift: Rotating 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Shift (Training begins on 1st Shift)
Schedule:

• 1st Shift: 5:30 AM - 2:30 PM
• 2nd Shift: 1:30 PM - 10:30 PM
• 3rd Shift: 9:30 PM - 6:30 AM
• Overtime: Every other Saturday as required
• 100% Onsite

Position Overview

General Motors is seeking a highly motivated Group Leader - Supply Chain Operations to lead daily production and material flow activities within a fast-paced manufacturing environment. This role is responsible for supervising represented UAW employees, driving safety and operational excellence, and ensuring production objectives are achieved in support of expanding engine operations in Flint.

The successful candidate will lead teams supporting high-demand engine programs, including new V8 product launches, while partnering with cross-functional teams to improve safety, quality, responsiveness, cost, and environmental performance (SPQRCE).

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Team Management

• Lead, coach, and develop a team of approximately 15-25 hourly UAW employees.
• Foster a culture of accountability, engagement, and continuous improvement.
• Conduct performance management activities, provide real-time feedback, and address employee concerns.
• Manage employee attendance, timekeeping, training, and workforce planning.
• Collaborate effectively within a union environment while maintaining strong employee relations.
• Handle difficult conversations, conflict resolution, and disciplinary actions when necessary.

Manufacturing & Supply Chain Operations

• Coordinate daily production and material flow activities to support manufacturing requirements.
• Analyze production schedules, inventory levels, and operational needs to ensure uninterrupted operations.
• Monitor performance metrics and implement corrective actions to achieve operational targets.
• Support logistics, warehouse operations, inventory management, and material movement processes.
• Partner with production, maintenance, quality, engineering, and logistics teams to resolve operational challenges.

Safety, Quality & Continuous Improvement

• Champion a safety-first culture and ensure compliance with all safety requirements.
• Hold employees accountable for safe work practices and procedures.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives using Lean Manufacturing, CIP, and problem-solving methodologies.
• Conduct root cause analysis and implement countermeasures to improve productivity and quality.
• Support Built-In Quality initiatives and maintain compliance with established quality standards.
• Identify opportunities to improve throughput, efficiency, and operational performance.

Operational Excellence

• Develop and maintain production reports, staffing plans, and performance metrics.
• Review production, quality, and maintenance data to identify trends and operational improvement opportunities.
• Recommend methods to improve equipment performance, productivity, and workforce effectiveness.
• Adapt quickly to changing priorities and production requirements in a dynamic environment.

Qualifications

Required

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Minimum 1-2 years of leadership, supervisory, or management experience.
• Experience leading teams in a manufacturing, warehouse, logistics, or supply chain environment.
• Strong problem-solving, decision-making, and communication skills.
• Ability to work rotating shifts and overtime as required.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.

Preferred

• Associate's Degree or Bachelor's Degree.
• Previous experience in a unionized environment, preferably UAW.
• Automotive manufacturing experience.
• Knowledge of supply chain operations, material flow, logistics, and inventory management.
• Experience with Lean Manufacturing, Continuous Improvement Process (CIP), and operational excellence initiatives.
• Knowledge of quality systems, production control, and manufacturing operations.
