Advanced Characterization Department Senior Manager

Idaho National Laboratory’s (INL) Nuclear Materials Performance Division is seeking forward-thinking professionals interested in exploring a career as a Senior Manager of the Advanced Characterization Department. Our team works an on-site 4x10 schedule located at our Materials and Fuels Complex with every Friday off! Responsibilities Include: Manage the Advanced Characterization Department within the Nuclear Materials Performance Division. Individuals are sought with a strong background and experience in understanding the mechanistic behavior and degradation of irradiated fuels and materials from LWR (light water reactors) and new reactor systems. The Advanced Characterization Department Senior Manager drives continuous improvement in the quality and efficiency of measurement instruments, experimental processes, and data analysis related to characterization as it pertains to post-irradiation examination. Additional responsibilities include ensuring effective technical and career mentorship for a large team; acting as a technical resource for others; coordinating with internal and external customers to define the use of test and examination data and to ensure that data is of the type and quality required; building relationships with the commercial nuclear industry, government entities, universities, and small businesses that lead to advanced characterization processes and post irradiation examination programs of national relevance; responding to requests for proposals for characterization or capability development; and maintaining a strategy that guides deployment of new research areas and capabilities. The Advanced Characterization Department Senior Manager also performs a role as a principal investigator, conducting research, development, and analysis of nuclear fuels and materials with emphasis on characterization that bridges the gap between microstructural scale and engineering scale with respect to fuel performance and structural material degradation. In this role, the Senior Manager establishes research plans and experimental design for research projects/programs that they participate in, collects, assimilates, interprets, and reports data. The Senior Manager serves as a role model by being a major or sole contributor to the generation of peer-reviewed publications, reports, proposals, and intellectual property. It is expected that approximately 80% of the Manager’s time will be spent on department management and 20% on conducting R&D projects. Minimum Requirements: * Bachelor’s degree in nuclear science, engineering, or related subject area with 5 years' experience. * Extensive knowledge of nuclear fuels and materials, irradiation testing, post-irradiation examination and advanced material characterization techniques.

• At least 3 years of increasing technical and personnel leadership experience

demonstrating effective skills in organizing technical work, developing and implementing strategies, building relationships with universities, industry, national laboratories, and/or small business that benefit the nuclear industry, and recruiting talented individuals.

industry. * Experience in using data analytics and Artificial Intelligence in Research and Development projects. Preferred: * Advanced degree in nuclear science, engineering, or related subject area Job Information: * The target pay range for this position is $158,712- $237,174 annually. The full pay range is $107,844 - $274,980 annually. At Idaho National Laboratory compensation decisions are determined using factors such as education, relevant experience, and other credentials. Physical Requirements: While performing the duties of this classification, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, bend, and work in an office and field/laboratory environment. The job requires hand/finger dexterity to keyboard or type, handle materials, manipulate tools, and reach with hands and arms. The job requires operation of job-related equipment and driving a vehicle. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 35 pounds.
