Electrical Engineer 2

Illumina seeks an Electrical Engineer 2 to support development and lifecycle management of DNA sequencing instruments in the Bay Area. The role spans new product introduction, manufacturing transfer, and sustaining engineering, with focus on compute platforms, cable systems, and failure analysis.
Responsibilities
- Support NPI activities from design through manufacturing transfer, including design reviews and pilot production
- Execute sustaining engineering for released products, addressing obsolescence, supplier transitions, and field issues
- Manage qualification, integration, and lifecycle of server-class compute platforms in sequencing instruments
- Design and modify cable assemblies for power, control, sensor, and high-speed data interfaces
- Investigate manufacturing defects and field failures using root-cause analysis methodologies
Requirements
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline
- 2+ years of product development, NPI, manufacturing, or sustaining engineering experience
- Proficiency with analog/digital electronics, power distribution, PCB interfaces, and system integration
- Experience designing cable harnesses with connector selection, pinout definition, and verification testing
- Hands-on troubleshooting with oscilloscopes, multimeters, logic analyzers, and lab equipment
- Familiarity with design tools such as Altium or OrCAD
- Knowledge of engineering change control and product lifecycle management processes
