Location: Dover, DE

Reports To: Eligibility Manager

Work Schedule: 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM or 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM

Training Schedule: 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM at our Newark, Delaware office.

This position is based at a hospital client site in Dover, DE and may require travel to other client facilities as needed. Mileage reimbursement is provided for approved business travel.

Job Summary

The ED Hospital Representative supports PATHS' mission by assisting patients and families in securing appropriate health coverage and financial assistance while receiving care in Emergency Department and inpatient hospital settings. This role serves as a patient advocate, helping individuals navigate Medical Assistance programs, verify insurance coverage, obtain necessary documentation, and complete eligibility applications. The position requires strong customer service skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work in a fast-paced healthcare environment.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Assist patients with applying for Medical Assistance in Emergency Department and inpatient hospital settings, both bedside and at designated workstations.
• Verify patient health insurance information and eligibility.
• Work with patients, family members, employers, financial institutions, and state or federal agencies to obtain required information and supporting documentation.
• Accurately document patient information and case activity in various systems.
• Complete administrative tasks including faxing, filing, emailing, scanning, and phone communications to facilitate application processing.
• Provide coverage at assigned hospital facilities and other client locations as needed.
• Maintain confidentiality of protected health information in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
• Meet established productivity, quality, and accuracy standards.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel)

• Ability to function well in a high-paced healthcare environment and adapt to multiple client sites.

Physical & Environmental Requirements

• Occasional lifting of up to 15 pounds. (if applicable)

• Entering patient homes and communicating with people to obtain patient information. 

• Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer, also, prolonged periods of being on your feet while on site at the hospital

• Transporting supplies to and from client facilities.

• Must have reliable transportation, valid driver’s license and car insurance for travel to client sites as required.

Education & Experience

· High school diploma or GED required.

· Knowledge with EPIC recommended but not required.

Pre-Employment Requirements

· Offers of employment are contingent upon successful completion of applicable screenings consistent with federal, state, and local laws.

· Screenings may include: criminal background check, drug screen, physical exam, PPD screening, and verification of immunization records. 

· COVID Vaccination required.

· Employment eligibility will be verified through I-9/E-Verify.

· Because PATHS operates in the healthcare industry, certain screenings (e.g., OIG/GSA exclusion checks, state Medicaid exclusion lists) may be conducted on a recurring basis as required by federal and state law, client contracts, and hospital compliance programs.

Compensation & Benefits

· Compensation: $20.00/hour.
