Job Information Job Title: Machinist A (Shift 3) Job Code: 37313 Job Location: Huntsville, AL (AMF South Location) Job Schedule: 9/80: Employees work 9 out of every 14 days – totaling 80 hours worked – and have every other Friday off - Shift 3 Job Description Position sets up and operates a variety of machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, precision grinders, etc. to make parts, mechanisms, tools, or machines to exacting tolerances and dimensions. Essential Functions Interpret blueprints, sketches, and engineering specifications; determine sequence of operations, number of cuts required, and method of setup and arrangement; work with a variety of machinist’s hand tools and precision measuring instruments; make shop computations; and fit and put together precision parts and determine material, parts and equipment required. Fabricate piece parts per work instructions, drawings and specifications using required machine tools. Inspect piece parts per work instruction and drawing requirements. Set up and operate machine tools. Perform other related duties as assigned. Run machine shop equipment such as lathes, CNC, milling machines, precision grinders, etc. to make parts to exacting tolerances and dimensions. Use, adjust, clean, and store tools, machinery and equipment. Keep records and reports of the use of equipment. Other duties as assigned. Ability to obtain a US security clearance. Requirements High School Diploma or equivalent with 0 to 3 years of prior related experience. Preferred Additional Skills Certification from a trade school or state-licensed Journeyman Machinist certification. Hands‑on manual machining experience. Knowledge of setting up milling machines and lathes. Reading engineering drawings, blueprints, production plans, and/or work instructions. Performing in‑process inspection of finished parts utilizing appropriate inspection and gaging equipment. Knowledge of industry applicable laws, codes, ordinances and regulations. Experience as a manual machinist on a conventional lathe and CNC machining in an industrial/manufacturing environment. Knowledge of machine tools, equipment, shop procedures, and practices; principles and properties. Basic math knowledge to solve problems.
