Respiratory Therapist (RRT) Join a leading Magnet‑recognized, Teaching, and Level1 Trauma facility in Charleston, South Carolina, as a dedicated Respiratory Therapist. This 865‑bed hospital, including the Ashley River Tower, is renowned for its advanced patient care and commitment to education. The successful candidate will provide comprehensive respiratory care to a diverse adult critical care patient population within the Cardiovascular ICU and Medical‑Surgical ICU. Patient populations include those with complex cardiac conditions, post‑surgical recovery, heart and lung transplants, mechanical circulatory support (ECMO, IABP, Impella, LVAD), ARDS, septic shock, and various medical and abdominal surgical emergencies. This role involves working night shifts, collaborating with an interdisciplinary team, and utilizing Epic for charting. The position offers an opportunity to contribute to a high‑acuity environment while maintaining professional growth. Key Responsibilities Provide advanced respiratory care to adult critical care patients, including mechanical ventilation management, oxygen therapy, and aerosol treatments. Perform arterial blood gas draws and analysis, interpreting results to guide patient care. Respond to rapid responses and code situations, providing immediate respiratory interventions. Collaborate effectively with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement individualized patient care plans. Monitor and assess patient respiratory status, making appropriate adjustments to therapy as needed. Document all patient care activities, observations, and interventions accurately and timely in Epic. Potentially float to the Main Hospital campus to support adult patient populations, adhering to consistent policies, equipment, and charting standards. Required Qualifications Minimum of two (2) years of recent adult critical care Respiratory Therapist experience. First‑time travelers are not accepted. NBRC RRT certification. Certified Respiratory Therapists (CRT) will be considered. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification. South Carolina Respiratory Care Provider (SC RCP) license must be active and in hand at the time of start. Must reside outside a 60‑mile radius from the facility; locals may be considered on a case‑by‑case basis. Previous permanent staff (including PRN) must be separated from the facility system for a minimum of one (1) year before returning as a traveler. Preferred Qualifications Experience working in a Magnet‑recognized, Teaching, or Level1 Trauma facility. Experience with Epic charting system. Skills & Competencies Proficient in managing various modes of mechanical ventilation, including advanced ventilator settings. Expertise in oxygen therapy, aerosol treatments, and airway management. Skilled in arterial blood gas (ABG) draws and interpretation. Familiarity with advanced mechanical circulatory support devices such as ECMO, IABP, Impella, and LVAD. Strong critical thinking and problem‑solving abilities in high‑pressure situations. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective team collaboration. Ability to adapt to changing patient needs and unit demands, including potential floating assignments. Proficient in electronic health record (EHR) systems, specifically Epic. Shift Details Shift Type: Night Shift Duration: 12 hours (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM) Days per Week: 3 shifts per week Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend Holiday Requirement: Required On‑Call Requirement: No Floating: Possible to Main Hospital (adult population, same policies, equipment, and charting requirements); No floating to sister facilities. Contract Length: 13 weeks Start Date: 2026-07-06 End Date: 2026-10-05 Guaranteed Hours: Facility allowed to call off one (1) shift per two (2) weeks. Requested Time Off (RTO): All RTO must be submitted at the time of application. Approval is based on manager and unit needs and is not guaranteed. Block Schedule: Open to accommodating block schedules, but approval is prior to assignment and not guaranteed. Hurricane Season: Travelers should be aware that during hurricane season (June through November, with peak months in August and September), all employees and contractors may be assigned to emergency response teams.
