Assistant Coach of Men's BasketballCharleston Southern UniversitySummaryReporting to the Head Men’s Basketball Coach, , the Assistant Coach will uphold and assist the Head Coach, his vision, and the mission of Charleston Southern University’s Division I Men’s Basketball program. The Assistant Coach will understand and embrace the academic and Christian mission of Charleston Southern University, including the role that Athletics serves to support that mission. Will attend mandatory coaches and departmental meetings. Evening and weekend work as required. Travel via motor coach and overnight stays will be required. Must be able to lift and carry up to 25 lbs.Work PerformedProgram Assistance. Collaborate with Athletic and Administrative staff to advance the goals/mission/core values of the University and department. Provide Christ-like mentorship of student athletes in accordance with the mission and values of the University. Enable the achievement of quality, competitive sports program and supports the educational goals of individual student athletes by demonstrating a coaching philosophy which encourages those goals and promotes an environment conducive to both. Follows the standards set forth by the Head Coach as it relates to a positive image in the areas of personal behavior, conduct, and appearance on and off the University campus, participating in community and professional organizations, representing the University at professional meetings and on community committees. Understanding of NCAA, Big South Conference, and CSU rules and regulations governing member institutions. Disciple and assist with character development of student athletesCoaching: Training and Game Planning. Assist in skill instruction, player development, coaching practices of student athletes concerning tactical and technical strategies. Ability to effectively scout and game plan for opponents. Knowledge of offensive and defensive philosophies and ability to implement in both team and individual settings. Contribute to film reviews, film breakdowns, analytics, statistical analysisRecruiting. Contribute in all recruiting efforts of program and identifying potential student athletes to fill needs in order to enhance the program. Conduct unofficial and official visits following approval from the CSU Compliance Department. Remain current and proactive in NCAA and conference legislation on recruiting practices and guidelines.Program Operations. Protect- the integrity of the sport coached and the reputation of the intercollegiate athletics program of the University by ensuring that recruiting activities, student-athlete eligibility determination, scholarships and financial aid programs, scheduled practice sessions, and related activities governed by the NCAA are in compliance with NCAA rules and regulations as well as applicable conference rules and University policies. Oversee on campus housing efforts of student athletes in Liaison with CSU Compliance Department.Perform other related duties relative to the job.QualificationsEducation: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year institution.Experience: Prior basketball coaching experience at the collegiate and/or professional level. Working knowledge of ARMS or similar software systems. Effective written and verbal communication skills to various groups. Must be able to work effectively independently and as part of a diverse team.
