Linux Engineer

This position provides Linux systems engineering, administration, and DevSecOps support for secure development, test, and operational environments supporting NSWCDD laser, electro-optical (EO), and mission system programs. Candidate will need to be onsite at Naval Support Facility Dahlgren/Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division or Contractor Site 3-4 days per week. Ideal candidate will have 6-8 years of experience in a similar role. Clearance An ACTIVE Secret Clearance is required for this position. Applicants selected will be subject to a security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. US Citizenship is required to obtain a clearance. Requirements 6+ years of experience with Linux system administration, including performance tuning, networking, and service managementStrong scripting and development skills in Bash, Python, or similar languages.Hands‑on experience with configuration management and infrastructure automationDeep understanding of secure system configuration and federal compliance frameworksDemonstrated experience setting up and maintaining small computer lab environments (hardware setup, OS imaging, network configuration, patching, and troubleshooting)Proficiency with virtualization and containerization technologies (VMware, KVM, Docker, Podman) Responsibilities Design, develop, and optimize Linux‑based applications, tools, and system componentsLead administration and hardening of Linux systems (RHEL, CentOS, Ubuntu) across production, development, and secure environmentsArchitect and implement automation solutions using Ansible, Terraform, Bash, Python, or similar toolsDiagnose and resolve complex system, network, and application issues, providing Tier 3 expertiseCollaborate with cybersecurity teams to ensure compliance with federal security standards (STIGs, NIST, FISMA)Support and enhance CI/CD pipelines and DevOps workflowsManage small computer lab environments, including workstation provisioning, OS imaging, patching, network configuration, and hardware lifecycle managementProduce clear documentation for system configurations, processes, and operational procedures Preferred Skills and Experience Experience with infrastructure‑as‑code (Terraform, CloudFormation)Familiarity with cloud environments (AWS GovCloud, Azure Government)Experience with CI/CD platforms (GitLab CI, Jenkins, GitHub Actions) Compensation Compensation at SimVentions is determined by a number of factors, including, but not limited to, the candidate’s experience, education, training, security clearance, work location, skills, knowledge, and competencies, as well as alignment with our corporate compensation plan and contract specific requirements.The projected annual compensation range for this position is $106,000 - $147,000 (USD). This estimate reflects the standard salary range for this position and is just one component of the total compensation package that SimVentions offers.
