Description: The RN implements professional nursing practice centered on the patient as a whole person. The focus is on creating a caring environment concentrated on healing and wellness. Conducts comprehensive assessments in accordance with the RN's scope of practice and hospital policies. Considers the patient’s culture, age, and developmental level. Identifies patient risk factors and presenting complaints. Collects objective and subjective data. Develops a prioritized problem list based on input from the inter-professional team. Explains procedures, treatments, and processes to patients and families. Initiates action to alleviate patient stress and discomfort. Recognizes, responds to, and communicates changes in patient condition. Documents ongoing assessments and responses to procedures and therapies. Delegates tasks appropriately and oversees team members in performance. Monitors the accuracy of delegated patient care provided by other team members. Facilitates the patient discharge process by executing discharge orders timely. Assures nursing excellence in accordance with accepted standards and evidence-based practice. Actively participates in quality improvement activities and core measures. Uses a holistic perspective regarding patient care.
