Nevada City School of the Arts (NCSOTA), a TK-8 charter school in operation since 1994, is seeking a dynamic, culturally aware, stimulating, and highly qualified Education Specialist to join our team. JOB TITLE: SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER/EDUCATION SPECIALIST (MILD/MODERATE)SCHEDULE: 2026-27 School Year – Full-timeWAGE: $66,960 - $94,595 per year, depending on experience This position works with pupils whose needs have been identified in, or are being considered for, an individualized education program (IEP). This position is supervised by the Program Specialist and works directly with school site administrators, general education teachers, and other student services team members. KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES: The SPED Teacher/Education Specialist demonstrates knowledge of special education laws, inclusive instructional practices, and evidence-based strategies for supporting students with mild to moderate disabilities. The educator applies principles of differentiated instruction, social-emotional learning, and positive behavior supports to promote student access, engagement, and growth. This role requires strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills; the ability to collaborate effectively with students, families, general and special education staff, and multidisciplinary teams; and proficiency in special education data systems and instructional technology. Providing specially designed instruction to access grade-level California Content Standards in the Least Restrictive EnvironmentDelivering instruction and targeted supports in one or more of the following domains: academics, communication, gross/fine motor, social-emotional, behavioral, vocational, and learning environment access skillsProviding consultation, resource information, and materials to parents and general education staff members.Coordinating special education services with parents, general education staff/teachers, school administrators, and related service providers (school psychologist, speech and language pathologist, community service providers, etc.). This can include both in-person and remote technologies (e.g., Google Classroom, Zoom, etc.)Monitoring pupil progress regularly and participating in the review and revision of Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) as appropriate. Assessing pupil performance in meeting academic or functional goals identified in the pupil's IEP. The assessment process may include both formal and informal assessments to evaluate special education eligibility, educational instruction needs and strengths in order to set accommodations, modifications, and instructional decisions. Prepare, implement, and manage Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) in compliance with state and federal special education regulations.Establish and maintain positive relationships with district and county personnel, parents/guardians, students, and community members. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCERequired:Valid California Special Education Credential – Mild to Moderate Support Needs issued by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC) OR Mild/Moderate with Autism and CLAD authorizationsPreferred: Master's degree from a regionally accredited institution.Willingness to obtain a Bridge authorization if Credential is Mild/Moderate or before.Physical Demands:Frequent: Sitting, Walking, StandingOccasional: Lifting and CarryingInfrequent: Pushing and PullingMaximum Weights: Lift 25 lbs/Carry 25 lbsReasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this position.
