In 2019 St. Johns County was ranked the 10th fastest growing county in the United States showcasing that there is truly something for everyone in St. Johns County!The St. Johns County Facilities Management Department is seeking an Access Control Technician to maintain, repair, install, configure, and troubleshoot the County's access control, security, and camera systems. The position focuses on low-voltage security technologies, including badge/card readers, video surveillance, intercoms, alarms, gates, and related equipment.The ideal candidate will be able to work independently, diagnose, and resolve technical issues, and communicate effectively with vendors, contractors, and County departments. Strong computer skills, attention to detail, reliability, and the ability to follow projects through to completion are important for success in this role.The Facilities Management Department provides comprehensive facilities services including property management and maintenance for all properties and buildings owned by the St. Johns Board of County Commissioners. The department delivers the full spectrum of facilities management services for approximately 2 million square feet of County facilities. These properties range from general administrative offices, and judicial facilities to library and recreational facilities. In addition, the department provides in-house small construction services and project management of building repairs and renovations.The ideal candidate must possess St. Johns County's core values of Dedication, Openness, Adaptability, Visionary, Fiscal Responsibility, Integrity, and Humility.Essential ResponsibilitiesInstalls, configures, programs, troubleshoots, diagnoses, maintains, and repairs electronic access control and security systems to ensure reliable operation and compliance with established security requirements.Establishes, maintains, and ensures consistent application of access control assignments, security codes, access levels, and system programming standards necessary to support County operations.Processes and issues access control badges and credentials for County personnel and employees of other Constitutional Offices, as authorized.Performs daily system checks and inspections; identifies malfunctions and makes necessary programming, configuration, calibration, and operational adjustments to maintain proper performance of access control and security equipment.Conducts preventive maintenance, inspections, testing, and minor repairs of access control systems, electronic locks, doors, gates, video surveillance systems, and related security equipment; maintains accurate service records and inspection logs.Repairs and maintains electronic gates, doors, locks, card readers, request-to-exit devices, door position switches, and other access control and security hardware.Coordinates with Information Systems, contractors, vendors, and other County personnel to troubleshoot and resolve access control and security system issues and to support installation, maintenance, and repair activities.Assists with the installation, termination, testing, and troubleshooting of electrical, data, and coaxial cabling associated with access control and security systems.Provides onsite access, coordination, and technical support to vendors and contractors performing work on access control, security, and related building systems.Collaborates with supervisors and other staff to define project scope, understand operational requirements, confirm specifications, coordinate work, and ensure timely and satisfactory completion of assigned projects.Performs security-related building maintenance and repair activities associated with doors, locks, gates, access control equipment, and related infrastructure in County facilities.Maintains required documentation, service records, equipment inventories, system information, and maintenance logs related to access control and security systems.Follows established security and safety protocols while working at the Criminal Justice Facility and related buildings.Responds to after-hours outages, as assigned.Maintains a full-time presence on the job.Performs other duties as assigned.Essential RequirementsHigh school diploma or equivalent recognized certification.A minimum of five (5) or more years of related experience in facility maintenance, physical security systems, access control systems, or related technical/maintenance work.Must possess and maintain a valid Florida driver's license and any other endorsements necessary to legally operate vehicles used while assigned to this position.Must possess good interpersonal and communication skills to serve others.Must be able to comprehend, speak and write the English language.Must be able to operate a computer.Essential SkillsKnowledge of electronic access control systems and security equipment.Knowledge of current technology trends and solutions, computing and network standards, protocols, and procedures.Knowledge of installation, configuration, maintenance, upgrade and operation of computer hardware, software and peripherals.Skill in the installation, and maintenance of computer hardware, and software.Skill in the analysis of problems and the development and implementation of solutions.Skill in safe operation of job-related hand tools and power equipment.Skill in the analysis of problems and the development and implementation of solutions.Skill in the preparation of clear and precise administrative reports.Skill in oral and written communication.Environmental DemandsWorking Conditions may include some exposure to environmental changes (e.g., outdoor weather and/or field conditions, warehouses, garages, etc.), extreme noises, odors, heights and/or dust.Physical Activity may include sitting, walking, lifting heavy objects up to 25lbs, kneeling, crouching, reaching, or standing.Salary Range: $54,870.40 - $73,278.40Compensation Grade: BCC PG17Department: Facilities MaintenanceLocation: 2416 Dobbs Road St. Augustine, FL 32086St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners is a drug free workplace and equal opportunity employer.
