- Palomar has multiple campus locations (San Marcos, Escondido, Rancho Bernardo and Fallbrook); training may occur at any of these locations and the work location is subject to change depending on future department needs.
- Potential future vacancies may include other District departments, locations, and/or work schedules (i.e. days, evenings or nights).

Work Schedule
- Palomar College Police Department employees are subject to shift work, including evening hours and weekends. The current work schedule for this position will be 10 hours per day, 4 days per week (either Sunday - Wednesday or Wednesday - Saturday). Hours are primarily assigned between 5:00 a.m. and 11:00 p.m.
- Shifts may rotate in the future depending on departmental requirements.
- Occasional night and weekend hours will be required due to department needs.

Salary/Wage
- $5,323.75 [step 1] - $6,472.20 [step 5]. Step placement may be negotiable within this range dependent upon education and experience.
- If you are a current employee who applies via the external recruitment process and is selected for a promotion, step placement on the new grade will be in accordance with the applicable District agreement/handbook.
- A 3% differential pay will be paid for hours worked between 6:00 pm and 10:00 pm. A 6% differential pay will be paid for hours worked between 10:00 pm and 6:00 am.

- Experience: One year of experience receiving emergency and non-emergency calls in a public safety environment.
- Note: For work experience, a "year" is defined as equivalent to 40 hours per week for 12 months.
- Education: Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade.

- Answers emergency and non-emergency telephone lines; determines nature and priority of calls and/or transfers to the appropriate responder.
- Dispatches personnel via radio voice communication using a computer-aided dispatch system.
- Responds to field unit requests via radio or telephone for information and additional assistance.
- Receives, enters and relays to field units situational information such as location updates and other responders in the area.
- Monitors and updates locations and activities of field units.
- Notifies external public safety agencies and departments by telephone or radio in order to solicit assistance or coordinate activities.
- Conducts test transmissions on communications equipment.
- Utilizes various computer applications and software packages; maintains and generates reports from a database or network system.
- Performs related duties and responsibilities as required.
- Public safety codes, terminology, procedures and practices.
- Ordinances, codes, procedures and practices regarding public safety radio communications.
- Proper operation and care of radio and telephone equipment and operational characteristics of emergency communication system equipment.
- Environment of assigned locations, layout and geography.
- Safety policies and safe work practices applicable to the work.
- Various confidential information databases with restricted access requirements and procedures.
- Monitoring and operating a variety of communications and surveillance equipment, including radio consoles, telephones, computer systems and related software on surveillance camera systems.
- Exercising tact and diplomacy in dealing with sensitive issues and critical situations.
- Determining dispatch priorities during heavy workloads and using judgment in the application of policies, rules, regulations and standard operating procedures.
- Using computer mapping systems and paper maps to determine or confirm locations.
- Broadcasting clear, concise and specific instructions over the radio in a distinct, well-modulated voice.
- Monitoring multiple public safety radio frequencies simultaneously.
- Communicating effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Operating a computer and using standard business software.
- Working rapidly under stress and exercising good judgment in emergency situations.
- Exercising sound independent judgment within general policy guidelines.
- Listening to, comprehending, retaining and recording key information clearly and accurately.
- Maintaining sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, age, cultural, physical or mental disability, medical condition, gender, gender expression, gender identity, sex, sexual orientation, nationality, race and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff.
- Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with all those encountered in the course of work.
- The person selected for hire will be required to complete the following pre-employment requirements: live scan/fingerprinting, official transcript(s), and TB risk assessment. Successful completion of all pre-employment requirements is mandatory to be eligible for employment. - This position is specially-funded and its continuation is dependent upon the availability and/or continuation of funds.
- Successful completion of California Code of Regulations 1959 and 1960 requirements and polygraph examination.
