Registered Nurse - Inpatient Surgical Services Job Description Job Title: Registered Nurse Job Summary: The Registered Nurse is responsible for providing professional nursing for patients following established standards and practices. Assists physicians and staff with the daily coordination of patient care and patient access. Coordinates patient flow, schedules appointments, procedures, tests and referrals. May serve as preceptor for clinical staff. Relies on experience and judgment to accomplish responsibilities. Works under minimal supervision. Creativity is expected to perform the job. May lead and direct the work of others within scope of practice. Experience, Education, Training, Special Skills, and Licensure None Graduate of accredited school of nursing Proficient in the English language, verbal and written communication skills, computer skills Current Louisiana State license as RN and BLS certification Job Function Patient Care: The RN performs patient psychosocial/physiologic assessments that integrate changing data at all times. A plan of care based on trends of similar patients, including patient education and discharge planning, is formulated; Tailors and prioritizes caring practice to individual needs, including cultural/ethical/spiritual needs at all times. Provides active participation in the planning of routine transitional health care needs (i.e. treatment options, patient placement options, end of life options). Responds immediately to changes in patient’s needs and provides holistic care using independent clinical judgment based on knowledge drawn from education and experience at all times. Adapts planned educational programs and information to individual patients and family, modifies teaching strategies or content and integrates this education during the delivery of patient care as evidence by collaborating with patients/families to identify realistic desired outcomes. Ensures efficiency in the delivery of care; determines immediate priorities and offers solutions for problems as needed. Advocates for patient rights and identifies potential conflict counsel for resolution of conflict as necessary. Identifies variances from expected outcomes and revises the plan of care based on patient outcomes as required. Accurately documents all patient care activities per documentation standards; provides assistance to the healthcare team with the documentation process as needed. Coordination of Care: Communicates and collaborates with the health care team members, patients, and families consistently to maximize patient outcomes at all times. Delegates patient care activities appropriately to other health care team members and participates in making and revising staff assignments to achieve maximum productivity as needed. Maintains knowledge regarding unit initiatives, incorporating the outcomes of the team/committee work into practice. Actively participates on unit teams, work groups, and/or committees as requested; anticipates needs and voluntarily assists others. Quality: Serves as a clinical resource to health care team members, acting as a mentor and preceptor, displaying leadership behaviors, and providing direction and guidance regarding practice as needed. Participates actively in quality improvement initiatives by utilizing standards, guidelines, and pathways for care delivery. Incorporates evidence based practice and research findings into nursing practice to enhance outcomes at all times. Other Duties as Assigned: Performs other duties as assigned.
