Senior Tax Manager (Estate, Trust, Gift)

Position Summary & Responsibilities Your Impact (Essential Duties): Provide strategic leadership and oversight for the firm’s most complex tax engagements. Serve as a key advisor to clients on tax planning strategies, transaction structuring, succession planning, and long-term tax minimization approaches. Maintain current in-depth knowledge of and interpret estate planning documents such as trusts and wills. Prepare or review a diverse variety of complex returns for high-net-worth clients, including personal, partnership, corporate, trust, foundation, and gift tax returns; prepare related tax work papers and financials. Knowledge and experience preparing and reviewing complex 1040 individual tax returns; 709 gift tax returns; GST rules; 1041 estate and trust returns; ESBT returns. Understand trust and estate concepts, including Distributable Net Income. Lead the intake of new estates and assist clients with estate administration issues. Oversee the review of highly complex tax returns for technical accuracy, client alignment, and regulatory compliance. Guide the development and execution of engagement strategies, coordinating with internal specialists and external advisors to deliver comprehensive client service. Coach and mentor managers and senior associates through goal-setting, feedback, and performance reviews, focusing on leadership development and succession planning. Cultivate deep, trusted client relationships and collaborate across service lines to provide integrated solutions. Contribute to firm growth through business development, client pitches, proposal development, and pricing strategies. Represent the firm at industry events to enhance visibility and build connections. Promote a culture of continuous learning by leading internal trainings, supporting certification efforts, and modeling technical excellence. Oversee resource allocation and engagement planning to optimize productivity, profitability, and client satisfaction across tax functions. Perform other duties as assigned by firm leadership and maintain flexibility to take on additional responsibilities. Meet annual billable hour targets and other performance measures. Qualifications & Experience 8+ years of experience in tax preparation. CPA license, JD, or LLM in Taxation; Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field. Deep expertise in federal, state, and local tax laws with ability to interpret complex regulations. Proven success in strategic tax planning, including entity structuring, succession planning, and transaction advisory. Advanced proficiency in tax software and research tools; ability to improve workflow and client insights through technology. Proven ability to lead, coach, and develop multi-level teams across engagements. Exceptional communication skills to convey complex tax concepts clearly to clients, peers, and stakeholders. Strong business acumen and ability to align tax strategy with client objectives and firm growth. Outstanding organizational and project management skills; ability to manage concurrent engagements and meet deadlines. High attention to detail with ability to see the big picture and provide forward-looking guidance. Analytical and solution-oriented with capacity to resolve nuanced tax issues and contribute to thought leadership. Full-time commitment and flexibility to work beyond regular hours as needed. Compensation & Benefits Pay range for CO applicants: $145,000–$175,000 per year. Generous benefits include comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage, life and disability insurance, 401(k), paid holidays, parental leave after one year, mentorship and career development programs, CPA exam support, and firm-sponsored events.
