Senior Safety Specialist

Job Summary The Senior HSE Specialist is responsible for leading and coordinating health and safety efforts for assigned regions, operating areas, or business activities; serving as a senior safety resource to field teams and operations leadership; leading complex investigations, compliance activities, and risk management efforts; driving regional implementation and improvement of HSE programs and standards; and partnering with leadership to strengthen performance, consistency, and compliance with internal standards and external regulations in support of business objectives. Duties and Responsibilities Provides senior health and safety leadership and support for assigned assets, regions, or business activities; coaches employees and contractors; coordinates local initiatives; and serves as a primary resource for technical safety questions. Leads implementation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of HSE programs, standards, procedures, and alerts for assigned operations, ensuring alignment with company requirements and applicable regulations. Uses field and company-wide safety data, trends, and input to identify, prioritize, and implement improvement opportunities; supports performance reporting; and drives regional continuous improvement initiatives. Leads compliance reviews, inspections, program assessments, audits, and regulatory interactions for assigned regions or locations; and helps ensure required protective equipment, tools, and systems are effective and consistently applied. Leads the incident investigation and reporting process for assigned regions, including significant events and contractor incidents; oversees injury and illness case management; drives corrective and preventive actions; and communicates key lessons learned. Leads risk management activities with field teams, including hazard recognition, risk assessment planning, JSAs/JHAs/PJSMs, safe work permitting for high-risk tasks, and verification of critical controls and safe work practices. Provides subject matter expertise for inspections, audits, and readiness reviews for complex or high-risk work; promotes best practices; compiles reports; and makes recommendations to improve overall safety performance. Manages contractor safety interfaces for assigned operations, including vendor qualification support, contractor engagement, contractor performance reviews, contractor safety meetings, and Drug and Alcohol testing program coordination. Acts as a key point of contact with local and regional regulatory agencies regarding inspection programs, compliance activities, and follow-up actions and fosters positive working relationships during agency interactions. Develops, coordinates, and delivers safety training, orientations, and meeting content; coaches field leaders on expectations and performance improvement; and supports knowledge sharing across operations. Collaborates with operations, maintenance, engineering, and other HSE disciplines to integrate safety into planning and execution, improve processes, and support a proactive safety culture. Leads or supports cross-functional alignment efforts, regional consistency initiatives, and implementation of broader HSE expectations, tools, and practices. Other duties as assigned. Skills and Competencies Strong knowledge of applicable safety rules, regulations, and standards (e.g., OSHA, API, DOT/PHMSA, NFPA) and company HSE requirements, with ability to apply them across assigned field and operational environments. Strong proficiency in incident response and investigation, injury and illness case management, and use of safety data and trends to drive corrective and preventive actions. Skilled in hazard recognition and mitigation, risk assessment planning and facilitation, safe work permitting for high-risk tasks, contractor engagement, emergency response, and safety audits and inspections. Demonstrates strong computer skills, including use of safety and incident management systems, compliance management systems, data management tools, reporting tools, and standard office software. Able to develop, coordinate, and deliver clear safety training, orientations, and meeting content, and present safety performance, trends, and initiatives to leadership and field teams. Demonstrates the ability to influence without direct authority and build alignment across multiple assets, teams, contractors, and leadership groups. Demonstrates working capability to lead projects, facilitate teams, and coordinate regional safety initiatives with limited supervision. Communicates effectively – Developing and delivering multi-mode communications that convey a clear understanding of the unique needs of different audiences. Plans and aligns – Planning and prioritizing work to meet commitments aligned with organizational goals. Manages complexity – Making sense of complex, high quantity, and sometimes contradictory information to effectively solve problems. Ensures accountability - holding self and others accountable to meet commitments. Drives results - consistently achieving results, even under tough circumstances. Action oriented - taking on new opportunities and tough challenges with a sense of urgency, high energy, and enthusiasm. Plans and aligns - work to meet commitments aligned with organizational goals. Situational adaptability – Adapting approach and demeanor in real time to match the shifting demands of different situations. Required Qualifications High School Diploma (or GED). Minimum of eight (8) years of H&S or E&P related experience. Valid driver’s license with an acceptable MVR. Ability to pass a respiratory fit test, if applicable to route, location, or assignment. An acceptable pre-employment background and drug test. Preferred Qualifications Preferred Qualifications Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. E&P and multi-site H&S support experience. HSE Certification (CSP, CIH, CHMM, OHST or a related discipline). Strong knowledge of production, completions, and drilling. Physical Requirements Ability to stoop, stand, walk, pull, carry instruments, and climb stairs and ladders for an extended period of time. Ability to lift and carry up to 30lbs. without assistance. Capable of driving distances of 150 miles or more per day during all types of weather conditions. Ability to one arm carry up to 25lbs. without assistance. Regular bending, crouching, pulling, and kneeling to check equipment and gauges. Must be able to exert up to 40lbs. of force occasionally and up to 20 lbs. frequently to move or manipulate objects. Ability to work significant amounts of time as required in completing job responsibilities. Working environment includes exposure to extremely loud noises in the field, hazardous chemicals, and hydrocarbons that may be under extreme pressure for which appropriate safety measures are required. The ability to inspect and have close visual acuity to perform activities. Ability to work outside in adverse weather conditions for extended periods of time safely. Work safely with machinery and equipment.
