Survey Engineer (Rail)Location: Hybrid - a mix of site, office and home working (Various locations across UK - Swindon, Cardiff, Birmingham, YorkTravel: Business expenses and hire car provided for work-related travelWe're looking for an experienced Survey Engineer with a strong background in railway infrastructure surveys to join our growing team. If you enjoy working across a variety of rail projects and have the technical expertise to deliver high-quality survey solutions, we'd like to hear from you.Security RequirementsApplicants must hold (or be able to obtain):BPSS clearancePTS certificationAC and DC competenciesWhat you'll be doingYou'll play a key role in delivering accurate survey information to support major rail infrastructure projects by:Leading topographical and rail infrastructure surveysSetting up and maintaining survey control networksManaging GNSS survey control and coordinate transformations (including SnakeGrid)Processing and validating point cloud dataProducing CAD drawings and survey deliverablesReviewing survey outputs to ensure quality and technical complianceProviding technical advice to project teamsWorking with third-party survey providers where requiredHelping improve survey methods, standards and best practiceWhat we're looking forEssential:Significant experience in railway surveyingExperience leading track and rail infrastructure surveysStrong knowledge of topographical surveying techniquesExperience with GNSS control networks and SnakeGridPoint cloud processing and interpretation experienceCAD and point cloud software skillsAbility to review and assure survey outputsExcellent communication and stakeholder management skillsPersonal Track Safety (PTS) certificationExperience working to Network Rail standardsDesirable:Degree in Surveying or a related subjectChartered status (or working towards it)Membership of RICS, ICES or CICESExperience on major rail enhancement or renewals projectsKnowledge of railway safety and risk managementExperience producing survey specifications or technical guidanceWhat you'll deliverYou'll be responsible for producing:Topographical survey dataControl network documentationPoint cloud models and processed datasetsCAD drawingsSurvey assurance reportsTechnical recommendationsQuality and compliance documentationAbout YouYou're an experienced rail survey professional who can work independently, solve technical challenges and collaborate effectively with clients and project teams.
