Overview Vascular / General Sonographer - Tappahannock. The Sonographer performs ultrasonography procedures and related techniques to produce images for interpretation by a licensed independent practitioner. The role involves administering high-frequency sound waves for diagnostic purposes across all ages (newborn to geriatric). Responsibilities Perform all the duties of a Sonographer I Provide accurate explanations and instructions to patients and families using age-appropriate language; verify patient understanding and consent to the ordered exam Perform ordered exams or therapy following imaging protocols while respecting patient comfort Adhere to policies and use protocols to determine that expected outcomes are met Document deviations from protocol or patient-specific issues that may impact image quality Notify the appropriate health care provider when immediate clinical action is necessary based on findings or patient condition Complete post-processing, image display, preliminary reporting, and transfer for physician review in a timely manner Ensure timely order closure, charge entry, and PACS QA completion Routinely cover open shifts as competency allows Advanced Competencies Perform all ultrasound-guided procedures, including drainages, aspirations, and biopsies Knowledge & Competency Experienced and competent in routine and complex studies Understanding of technical standards, scope of practice, department and health system policies, and safety and service standards Knowledge of imaging equipment, image processing software, instrumentation, and ancillary patient care equipment Education, Certification & Experience The position requires certification by ARRT as a sonographer (ARRT(S)) or RDMS, or CCI certification in medical sonography, or RDCS certification in Cardiac Sonography, or RVT certification as a Vascular Technologist. BLS for Healthcare Providers. Must have completed a 6-month orientation. Individuals with at least one year of experience can be hired directly into this role.
