Bilingual Eligibility Specialist - Montrose Allen Parkway (Job Overview)As an Bilingual Eligibility Specialist with Legacy Community Health, you will help connect patients with the health services they need by determining eligibility for third-party reimbursement, preparing admission data, supporting accurate insurance billing, and responding to questions from prospective applicants and patients.Your attention to detail and compassionate approach will help create a welcoming experience for patients while supporting the smooth operation of our healthcare services. You will work closely with colleagues and patients in a mission-driven environment where every interaction can make a meaningful difference in community health.Why This Role MattersHelp patients access vital healthcare services by guiding them through eligibility and enrollment processes.Support accurate coding, documentation, and insurance billing practices.Build trusting relationships with patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees.Contribute to a collaborative team working to meet department and organizational goals.Participate in performance improvement, safety education, and ongoing professional development.Travel to other sites for training and/or coverage as needed.Key ResponsibilitiesConduct eligibility determinations for clients following procedures and guidelines specific to each program.Ensure that clients do not have another payer source, such as Medicaid, Medicare, ADAP, or any other third-party insurance.Register clients into the CPCDMS.Complete all necessary paperwork.Perform data entry for eligible clients into the electronic system.Maintain up-to-date and orderly eligibility files.Conduct renewal eligibility as required by each program.Confirm eligibility appointments with clients.Set initial service appointments once eligibility has been determined.Provide clients with a list of required eligibility documentation.Participate in the Performance Improvement Program.Demonstrate respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible, and courteous environment.Promote effective working relationships and work effectively as part of a team to facilitate the department's ability to meet its goals and objectives.Attend all required safety training programs and describe responsibilities related to general safety, department/service safety, and specific job-related hazards.Attend all required safety education programs.Operate assigned equipment and perform all procedures in a safe manner as instructed.Maintain work areas and equipment in the condition required by Legacy standards.Demonstrate proper body mechanics in all functions.Check the patient's environment and equipment to ensure safety.Report safety concerns promptly to appropriate personnel.Follow Legacy's exposure control plans for bloodborne and airborne pathogens.Demonstrate knowledge of techniques, procedures, and the correct use of protective barrier equipment, including Universal Precautions.Assure a safe environment by instituting appropriate control measures.Attend annual education programs.Travel to other sites for training and/or coverage as needed.Perform other duties as assigned.Minimum QualificationsHigh School Diploma or GED, some medical knowledge.Desirable Education and/or ExperienceA minimum of 3-5 years of medical billing experience preferred.Some training or background in ICD-A / CPT codes preferred.Required Knowledge, Skills, and/or AbilitiesBilingual requiredAbility to understand and practice bookkeeping and accounting terminology requiredAbility to operate computers and other office machines requiredMust be able to take responsibility and work under pressureDesirable Knowledge, Skills, and/or AbilitiesKnowledge of medical terminology and billing practices preferred.About Legacy Community HealthAs the largest Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) in Southeast Texas, Legacy Community Health has been delivering comprehensive, high-quality, and affordable health care for nearly 40 years.
