The Educational Diagnostician will become an active member of the school team. The role ensures implementation of district policies, procedures and Special Education Regulations, Delaware Administrative Code.

Appoquinimink School District may require Safety‑Care or a similar competency‑based crisis prevention intervention training program as a condition of continued employment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Assume responsibility for monitoring of all reports, records and other documents (specifically audit file information) required for students with disabilities transferring into the district, initial student referrals and placements, and currently identified students. Schedule and facilitate IEP meetings including preparation, facilitation, and follow‑up. Support staff with writing standards‑based, measurable, observable IEP goals. Support staff with progress monitoring through collection and analysis of data. Serve as facilitator and/or integral member of the Instructional Support Team. Communicate and support administration/staff with implementation of IEP services, supports, and accommodations. Maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and an atmosphere that promotes student learning. Maintain and monitor accurate student data information (special education database) including those necessary for the September 30th, December 1st and Exit reports. Coordinate processes for initial evaluations, initial placements, and three‑year re‑evaluations. Serve as building contact person for parents who have questions or concerns regarding provision of special education services. Facilitate articulation of students receiving special education services transferring from grade to grade and from building to building. Monitor forwarding of progress reports on IEP goals and objectives at time of report card distribution. Serve as resource person and provide support/technical assistance regarding special education issues to building principals, general and special education teachers, and related service staff. Serve as building level liaison to various state and community agencies to coordinate services for students with disabilities. Ensure necessary reports are maintained in students’ audit files for all initial evaluations and three‑year re‑evaluations. Facilitate referral for special education students to appropriate outside agencies, including filing applications, meeting with outside agencies and serving as district representative for students in out‑of‑district placements. Participate in staff development and staff meetings as part of school staff. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Principal and/or Director of Special Education Services.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Master’s degree in Special Education required. Hold or be eligible for State of Delaware teacher certification in the identified content area. Five years’ experience as a Special Education Teacher required. Thorough knowledge of IDEA and IEP’s. Demonstrated knowledge of subject content, curriculum, methodology of effective teaching. Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional programs. Skilled in use of multi‑media and computer technology to enhance learning. Ability to establish and maintain effective collaborative relationships with students, peers, administrators, and parents. Demonstrated skill in oral and written communications; excellent human relations skills.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

While performing duties, the employee regularly talks, exchanges ideas by spoken word, conveys detailed instructions, and must hold normal cognitive abilities. Frequently sitting or remaining stationary for long periods. Exert up to 25 pounds of force occasionally to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.

PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

The work is generally performed in a school environment and may require moving around the school and classroom.

PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS

All persons employed by the Appoquinimink School District must submit a criminal background check and a tuberculosis test. Anyone offered employment must provide: proper identification (Social Security Card and Driver’s License), documentation of eligibility for employment in the U.S., completion of I‑9 form, and paperwork for the Delaware Child Protection Registry.
