Patient Care Technician I - OR Galveston (Casual Appointment)

Minimum Qualifications High school or equivalent AND completion of one of the following technical programs: Completion of a recognized Nurse Assistant program Completion of a Medical Assistant program Completion of Medical Corpsman program Completion of EMT program Completion of a UTMB Hospital Aide Training Program Two (2) years of experience in a direct patient care environment Certified MA, PCT, or CNA at time of hire Enrolled in a recognized School of Nursing and has completed the first semester of education which contains clinical concepts and health assessment or the equivalent Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications BLS Job Summary/Description To provide basic technical assistance and supportive patient care to meet the needs of individual patients throughout assigned areas. Job Duties Collect, report, and document data: vital signs, height and weight, intake and output, pulse oximetry, and collect specimens. Obtain blood samples by venipuncture. Acquire 12‑lead EKG. Perform and report POCT. Assist with patient activities and care as assigned by the charge nurse/designee as indicated by the patient’s plan of care. Provide personal hygiene: bathe patients, perform oral suctioning and superficial wound care, assist with chronic wound care, provide skincare for a patient with TED hose, SCD, casts, skeletal pins, assist with elimination, care for incontinent patients, care for patients with urinary catheter, assist or give cleansing enemas, sitz baths, non‑sterile douches, and provide ostomy care. Assist with feeding. Ambulate, position, and turn patients and care for patients with altered mobility. Assist with patient safety related to age and condition. Assist with patient restraints and patient‑specific safety precautions. Collect, report, and document data related to patient needs/emergencies and unusual patient and family behavior. Cares for the patient from a correctional environment. Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality of information and records at all times. Provide and maintain a clean, safe environment; perform and/or assist others in performing proper aseptic technique, isolation procedures, and infection control measures. Document as appropriate. Maintain patient care areas with appropriate supplies. Assist with patient requests for other hospital services. Marginal or Periodic Functions Video monitoring duties as assigned.
