SPED Teacher – Resource | Portland, Maine

This full-time Special Education Resource Teacher position offers the opportunity to provide individualized academic and behavioral support while helping students build the skills they need to succeed in the classroom and beyond. Qualifications:

-Valid Maine Special Education teaching certification or appropriate licensure required
-Special education teaching experience preferred
-Experience supporting elementary-aged students, particularly grades 4–5
-Experience with resource programs, life skills, and/or behavior programs preferred
-Strong classroom management and individualized instruction skills
-Ability to develop and implement appropriate educational and behavioral supports
-Excellent communication and collaboration skills
-Compassionate, patient, adaptable, and student-focused approach

Schedule:

-ASAP through June 11, 2027
-Full-time position
-32.5 hours per week
-Monday–Friday
-7:25 AM – 2:10 PM
-Early release Wednesdays at 1:10 PM

Position Details:

-Location: Portland, Maine
-Grade Levels: 4th & 5th grade
-Program: Special Education Resource
-School Year: 2026–2027

Responsibilities:

-Provide specialized instruction and academic support to students in grades 4 and 5
-Deliver individualized and small-group instruction based on students’ educational needs
-Support students with academic, behavioral, social-emotional, and functional skill development
-Collaborate with general education teachers, school staff, families, and related service providers
-Implement and monitor IEP goals and accommodations
-Utilize effective classroom management and positive behavioral support strategies
-Maintain accurate student documentation and progress records
-Create a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment for students with diverse learning needs
-Support students participating in resource, life skills, and/or behavior-focused programming as appropriate
