Controls Engineer

Lincoln Electric Automation is seeking a Controls Engineer to play a key role in the electrical design, development, and startup of automated manufacturing systems. This position supports innovative solutions such as robotic welding cells, advanced tooling and fixtures, and integrated automation equipment used by manufacturers around the world. Key Responsibilities:

• Develop, modify, commission, and troubleshoot PLC programs and integrated control systems.
• Configure and support industrial communication networks, including Ethernet/IP, I/O Link and CIP Safety.
• Select, configure, and troubleshoot electrical components such as sensors, actuators, motors, VFDs, servo systems, safety devices, and industrial control hardware.
• Support robot integration, including robot I/O, control interfaces, peripheral devices, and machine communication.
• Identify project risks, assumptions, constraints, and unresolved issues early and communicate recommended mitigation strategies.
• Coordinate electrical engineering activities with mechanical, software, controls, robotics, production, service, and project management teams.
• Participate in design reviews and contribute to system-level technical decisions.
• Support build, commissioning, startup, and field service activities as required. Travel as needed to support project execution. Up to 15% possible (5%-10% is normal)

Required Education & Experience:

• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering.
• 3-5+ years of experience in industrial automation, robotic systems, custom machinery, or a similar environment.
• Experience designing, implementing, and supporting electrical systems for automated machinery.
• Strong PLC programming, commissioning, and troubleshooting experience.
• Experience with robotic automation, control system integration, and industrial communication networks.
• Experience selecting and applying motors, drives, sensors, actuators, safety devices, and industrial control hardware.
• Experience with control panels, power distribution, grounding/bonding, circuit protection, and machine installation requirements.
• Working knowledge and application of electrical codes, standards, and regulatory requirements, including ANSI, CEC, NFPA, IEC, CSA/UL, and CE standards, is considered an asset.
• Proven ability to work effectively with cross-functional engineering and operations teams.
• Experience supporting build, commissioning, startup, and field-service activities.
• Interpret and apply applicable electrical codes, customer specifications, safety standards, and internal engineering requirements.
