Agency Adult Correction Division COO - OPS - Institutions Operations Job Classification Title HVAC Mechanic I (S) Position Number 60065448 Grade NC08 About Us The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14,000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. Other divisions include Administration, Health Services, Rehabilitation & Reentry, Special Operations and the Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission. We have a mission that matters! Description of Work Reporting to the Facility Maintenance Supervisor, this position is responsible for providing journey level work in the areas of Heating/Air Conditioning, Refrigeration, Hot Water Supply, Plumbing, and Food Service Equipment. Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: - Performing special repairs and assignments that are received by work orders from authorized personnel. - Identifying the cause of a problem; determining materials and tools needed and method of repair; and carrying out repair procedures independently on most jobs. - Performing scheduled maintenance functions as required and outlined in the preventative maintenance plans. - Training and/or supervising the work of offender helpers. Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences Salary Range: $39,244 - $68,679 This job posting will close at 11:59 pm, the night before the end date listed above. Applicants who possess the following skills are preferred: Working knowledge of the practices, methods, materials, and/or equipment used in the operation, maintenance, and/or repair of industrial air conditioning and refrigeration systems. Necessary Special Qualifications: Requires current certification by the Environmental Protection Agency as a Type I, II, III or Universal technician as required by Title 40, Code of Federal Regulations part 82, subpart F. This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits. About the Division of Institutions: The Division of Institutions manages the daily operations of all state-operated prison facilities across North Carolina. Facilities are categorized by custody levels (minimum, medium, close) and house individuals serving sentences for felony convictions. The division provides safety, security, and rehabilitative services through trained custody staff, program facilitators, and administrative personnel. About Richmond Correctional Institution: Richmond Correctional Institution is located in Hoffman, North Carolina and houses up to 420 male offenders in a medium custody facility.
