Apply now and energize your career with a true leader in global energy.Primary purpose of the position is to help maintain accurate accounting and ratemaking records with strong supporting documentation with minimal supervision for month-end close and regulatory filings for the U.S. Utilities. In this position, the person will prepare journal entries and account reconciliations in adherence with company policies and control procedures. Functions include accounting for AES Ohio and/or AES Indiana rate adjustment mechanisms (trackers/riders) and preparing Excel schedules and updating written testimony to be included in ratemaking filings. This role requires strong analytical skills and sound judgment, as the candidate will make independent decisions while performing accounting activities where only general guidelines or procedures are available.The job interrelates with other groups within the accounting department and other departments within AES, such as Regulatory Affairs, Revenue Accounting, Financial Planning and Analysis, and Financial Reporting. This position offers regular exposure to company leadership and opportunities for professional growth.Primary ResponsibilitiesAssist with all regulatory accounting functions for the US Utilities businesses. Activities include but are not limited to:Records, classifies and summarizes financial transactions in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, i.e. journal entries and reconciliation reportsPrepare and deliver audit support documentation on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basisPlans, organizes and prioritizes work assignments to meet required deadlinesCompiles, analyzes and reviews financial information in the preparation of reports, including schedules and testimony for ratemaking mattersDevelops, prepares, and reviews reports on a regular monthly, quarterly and/or annual basis to meet business needsAnalyzes, reconciles and evaluates the accuracy of general ledger accounting details and ensures the amounts are proper and classified correctlyMonitor compliance with AES policies, internal controls, and corporate accounting standardsIdentify accounting and control issues, evaluate root causes, and implement timely resolutionsPropose improvement to the existing processesPerform ad hoc accounting analyses and tasks as requested by managementCoordinate with internal and external auditors to resolve accounting and control matters throughout the yearBuild and maintain strong working relationships across finance, accounting, and other business functionsMinimum RequirementsDegreed Candidates in Accounting from an accredited college and/or universityBS in Accounting3-4 years of accounting experienceExperience with month end accounting close processIn-depth knowledge of US GAAPStrong computer and systems skillsStrong interpersonal skills to interface with teams within the accounting and business operationalExceptional organizational and analytical skills and oral and written communication skillsResults oriented, self-motivated, and able to work with limited direct supervision and as part of a teamWillingness to testify before the PUCO and IURCExcellent Microsoft Excel skillsAbility to work effectively both as a team member and independentlySkills Preferred But Not RequiredExperience in SAP ERP system strongly preferredCPA's will be given preferencePrior audit experience within a public accounting firm strongly preferredExperience in a regulated businessFamiliarity with the FERC Uniform System of Accounts as well as US utility industry accounting practicesAES is an Equal Opportunity Employer who is committed to building strength and delivering long-term sustainability through diversity and inclusion.
