Security Officer

Position Summary As a Security Officer at Banner Health in the west valley of Phoenix (Banner Estrella, Banner Boswell, Banner Del Webb and Banner Thunderbird Hospitals), you will respond to emergency situations, assist in ensuring patient and visitor safety and security, patrol service areas, including the grounds, and provide alarm monitoring and response. Shift Schedule Day Shifts: Shift A (Sun-Wed): Sun - Tues 6 am-6 pm, then ½ Wed 6 am-12 noon Shift B (Wed-Sat): ½ Wed 12 noon-6 pm, then Thu - Sat 6 am-6 pm Night Shifts: Shift C (Sun-Wed): Sun - Tues 6 pm-6 am, then ½ Wed 6 pm-12 midnight Shift D (Wed-Sat): ½ Wed 12 midnight-6 am, then Thu - Sat 6 pm-6 am Both day and night shifts operate in 12‑hour increments. An 18% night‑shift differential applies for work within the 7 PM‑7 AM window. Core Functions Exhibit excellent interpersonal and customer‑service skills in all interactions with patients, visitors and staff. Respond to all emergency codes and take appropriate control actions. Patrol and inspect facilities frequently to assist in maintaining a safer and more secure environment. Assist employees with security‑related matters, mediate disputes, conduct interviews and searches, enforce parking regulations and manage traffic control. Serve as a security subject‑matter expert. Assist medical staff in restraining and handling troubled or combative patients. Ensure adherence to security policies and maintain knowledge of applicable laws and regulations. Perform “citizen arrest” and demonstrate critical thinking during stressful situations as required. Use assigned non‑lethal weapons in accordance with policy and training. Investigate and report complaints, critical security incidents and unusual activities, maintaining accurate logs of all security activities during each shift. Participate in security lead training and provide guidance during emergencies. Testify professionally in criminal court, state hearings and review boards when required. Minimum Qualifications Maintain required security certifications. Possess a valid driver’s licence and eligibility for company auto insurance coverage. Demonstrate accurate observation skills and independent judgment in emergencies. Write comprehensive security reports. Complete all required security departmental training, including annual and mandatory assignments. Complete Banner Health Basic Officer Academy. Present a professional appearance and demeanor at all times. Possess strong verbal communication skills. Maintain proficiency with assigned non‑lethal weapons. Successfully perform the physical requirements of the position – demonstrated by completing physical skills testing within established deadlines. Maintain a Fingerprint Clearance Card throughout employment. For employees working at Banner Behavioral Health Hospital, sign a Criminal History Affidavit upon hire. Preferred Qualifications Prior experience in law enforcement, military, corrections, healthcare or advanced security. Additional related education and/or experience.
