Position Summary

The Class A CDL Shuttle Driver is responsible for safely transporting food waste and organic materials throughout the Watertown and Beaver Dam service areas and to other assigned locations. This position operates tractor-trailers equipped with 30- to 45-foot open-top dump trailers.

The ideal candidate is a dependable and safety-focused driver who can operate manual and automatic transmission vehicles, maintain accurate DOT documentation, communicate professionally, and work effectively in changing weather and operating conditions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Safely load, haul, and deliver food waste and organic materials on intrastate and interstate routes assigned by the company.
  • Operate Class A combination vehicles equipped with 30- to 45-foot open-top dump trailers.
  • Complete shuttle assignments and provide route coverage as directed by management.
  • Operate manual and automatic transmission vehicles in compliance with DOT requirements and all applicable federal, state, and local laws.
  • Operate manual or electric pallet jacks when required.
  • Use a pressure washer to clean bins and containers, ensuring customer locations remain clean and free of debris.
  • Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections.
  • Use basic hand tools to complete minor repairs to company bins and equipment.
  • Maintain truck equipment and ensure vehicles and trailers remain clean and in safe operating condition.
  • Use the company’s electronic logging system to maintain accurate DOT driver logs.
  • Complete and submit contamination reports, service tickets, maintenance records, and other required documentation accurately and on time.
  • Communicate regularly with customers and vendors to support efficient operations and quality service.
  • Notify the operations team of service concerns, equipment problems, delays, and customer-related issues.
  • Report all accidents, injuries, safety concerns, and property damage immediately in accordance with company policy.
  • Attend and participate in required safety calls, training sessions, and operational briefings.
  • Use a computer or mobile phone for training, communication, documentation, and expense management.
  • Perform additional driving assignments, including interstate routes, based on operational needs.

Schedule and Travel Expectations

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule based on business needs and seasonality
  • Ability to work up to 60 hours within seven consecutive days or 70 hours within eight consecutive days, as permitted by DOT Hours-of-Service regulations
  • Routes and assignments may change based on staffing and operational demands
  • Interstate travel may be required
  • Drivers should be prepared to accept assignments outside their regularly scheduled shuttle route when needed

Minimum Qualifications

  • Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License
  • CDL must be self-certified as Non-Excepted Interstate with the issuing state
  • Acceptable Motor Vehicle Record and Pre-Employment Screening Program record
  • Stable and verifiable employment history
  • Ability to operate manual and automatic transmission vehicles
  • Ability to comply with DOT, FMCSA, and company safety requirements
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening

Applicants must also meet one of the following experience requirements:

  • At least 23 years old with a minimum of two years of full-time, verifiable tractor-trailer experience; or
  • At least 21 years old with one year of tractor-trailer experience after graduating from an accredited truck-driving school; or
  • At least 21 years old with one year of relevant military driving experience

Physical Requirements

  • Regularly lift, carry, push, or pull up to 70 pounds
  • Regularly bend, stoop, twist, shovel, climb, and reach overhead
  • Pull or roll containers weighing up to 300 pounds
  • Climb into and out of trucks and trailers throughout the workday
  • Sit and drive for extended periods
  • Work safely around food waste, farms, and potentially unpleasant odors
  • Work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, snow, wind, and mud

Work Environment

This position involves working around commercial vehicles, open-top trailers, heavy equipment, customer facilities, farms, and food-waste collection areas. Drivers must maintain professional conduct, follow all safety procedures, and remain adaptable as routes and assignments change.
