Overview

U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs – Medical Support Assistant located in Cleveland, OH. Pay range: $33,867 – $55,296 annually. Position: GS-3/GS-4/GS-5. Full‑time, entry level. Rotating weekends & holidays. Telework: Not available.

Responsibilities

• Schedule appointments and coordinate patient transfer to VA facilities or private hospitals.
• Interpret and verify provider orders in accordance with VHA national scheduling guidelines.
• Verify and update patient demographics and insurance information.
• Perform basic eligibility, co‑pay, and pre‑authorization requirements for specific coverage.
• Prepare clinic for visits and monitor inpatient and outpatient appointments.

Qualifications

• Citizenship – U.S. citizenship required; non‑citizens may only be appointed if no qualified citizens can be recruited.
• Experience – Minimum 6 months experience in clerical/office work or equivalent combination of education and experience (≥1 year education above high school).
• KSAs – Ability to communicate, interact courteously, utilize computer systems, understand basic medical terminology, schedule appointments, work independently, provide excellent customer service.
• Physical Requirements – Primarily sedentary; walking, standing, bending, kneeling, carrying light items under 15 lbs, reaching above shoulder, driving automobile.
