Sterile Process Technician

The Department of Sterile and Materials Processing is a cutting-edge facility focused on the decontamination, high-level disinfection (HLD), assembly, sterilization, and distribution of surgical instruments, trays, and pans. Our operations support numerous surgical suites and clinics, with all components tracked using an advanced barcoding system.

• Cart washers
• Steris units
• Hand and power tools
• Calibration instruments
• Repair equipment and parts

Responsibilities:

• Inspect, assemble, package, and sterilize surgical instrument pans, procedural trays, technical equipment, and surgical case carts. Consult with the Processing Manager to determine appropriate packaging and sterilization methods.
• Examine surgical instrumentation for cleanliness and proper assembly; handle instruments carefully to ensure effective sterilization.
• Operate steam sterilizers in compliance with established protocols, monitoring time, pressure, and temperature accurately to achieve desired sterilization.
• Perform routine maintenance on sterilizers, including cleaning drain baskets, to ensure optimal operation.
• Conduct cultural preparations and review test pack results to verify sterility, maintaining accurate documentation.
• Decontaminate surgical instruments and equipment following established guidelines to prevent cross-contamination.
• Maintain a clean and functional workspace, managing infectious waste and linens as per established protocols.
• Receive and store supplies, validating stock against requisitions and reporting any discrepancies.
• Document and fulfill orders for surgical supplies, ensuring timely delivery to patient care areas.
• Conduct daily quality assurance checks on sterile supplies and instruments, maintaining records of equipment inventory and service frequency.

Qualifications:

• Certified Sterile Processor (HSPA or CBSPD)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• A minimum of three years of experience in sterile processing
• Experience in a large hospital setting (500 beds or more)
• Six months of travel experience
• Two professional references from recent positions

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in a Level 1 trauma center
• Certified Endoscope Reprocessor (CER Cert)
• Experience with orthopedic trays
