Overview Occupational Therapist – responsible primarily for outpatient rehabilitation services in an in‑home setting for older adults. Responsibilities Provide occupational therapy services in patients’ private residences or independent living facilities. Organize and conduct occupational therapy programs to facilitate rehabilitation. Direct patient participation in selected tasks to restore, reinforce, and enhance performance. Facilitate learning of skills essential for adaptation and productivity to diminish or correct pathology. Provide a flexible schedule and work environment in various settings. Supervise Occupational Therapy Assistants, temporary licensees, students, and support personnel as required. Ensure adherence to department and patient treatment schedules, timely documentation, and billing requirements. Attend and contribute to patient care, staffing conferences, and related meetings. Make referrals to other disciplines and agencies to address comprehensive patient needs. Consult with the rehabilitation team, including community physicians, to select appropriate therapeutic regimens. Adapt program and/or plan of care to meet individual patient needs. Promote a safe environment and enforce elimination of fire and safety hazards. Order supplies and equipment as necessary; maintain and report needed repairs. Prioritize patient service: ensure patients and families receive high‑quality, compassionate care. Screen, examine, and evaluate patients; develop diagnostic findings, treatment goals, and plans of care. Implement occupational therapy treatment plans and complete related documentation. Apply therapeutic techniques in areas including cognitive skills, muscle strength, coordination, endurance, mobility, perceptual abilities, sensory awareness, sitting and standing tolerance, balance, activities of daily living, joint protection, work simplification, orientation, physical agent modalities, low vision, falls risk management, medication management, health and wellness, community integration, community space case management, and related skills. Design, fabricate, fit, and/or apply adaptive devices; train patients in their use, including orthotics and prosthetics. Select appropriate activities suited to the individual's physical and mental capacity, intelligence level, and interests. Instruct patients in skills and techniques for participation in functional activities; evaluate progress, attitudes, and behavior. Perform routine reexamination as needed to modify or progress treatment plans. Perform other related duties as required. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in an occupational therapy curriculum accredited by ACOTE standards. Initial registration from the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy. Valid, unencumbered occupational therapy license required in the state of practice. Valid driver's license or reliable, independent transportation to patients’ residences.
