Company Name: Baker Concrete Construction, Inc Location: Phoenix, AZ, US, 85003 Req ID : 8005 Travel: Up to 25% Number of Openings: 1 Summary The Formwork Engineer III oversees and participates in the design and preparation of formwork layout drawings addressing the technical aspects of formwork layout, forming materials, system selection, and proper implementation. Participates in the project planning to ensure the most efficient, safe, and economical forming systems are incorporated in the project design. Must sign, stamp, and approve design work. Roles and Responsibilities The Formwork Engineer III will perform the following duties in a safe, productive, and effective manner: Provides Engineering input for proper form selection Calculates loads for shoring, forming and reshoring Determines member sizes and proper spacing Ensures formwork loads fall within the capacities of the crane Confirms framing layouts meet the design load requirements Designs lifting and rigging equipment Designs temporary bracing for existing structures such as walls and floors Reviews the designs and calculations of Formwork Engineers Identifies and resolves any unique design issues on the project Determines final crane placement based on foundation and load designs Oversees: Production of formwork shop drawings based on the design of the chosen formwork system Production of pour break drawings Production of crane layout drawings Review of construction drawings for dimensional conflicts and clarifications Issuing of RFIs to resolve conflicts. Production of repetitive drawings for typical formwork layout. Maintenance of project drawing files Plotting and assembly of drawings per standards set by the Engineering Department Compares and checks production drawings to the design criteria of the construction documents Identifies safety issues on the drawings Communicates with the field on drawing conflicts and issues related to formwork and brings resolution Ensures critical framing sections are shown on the drawings Reviews and critiques vendor supplied drawings Participates in transition meetings to determine production schedule for shop and engineering drawings and work order production Quantity take-offs of form material to the shop for fabrication and shipment Shop production with the field progress Work orders to shop for pre-assembly of forms to be shipped to the field Delivery dates for formwork delivered to project Trains and qualifies others to do independent pre pour inspections Critically views all aspects of construction design Supervises, trains, evaluates, and develops team members to ensure maximum return on investment. Ensures support managers within area of responsibility also supervise, train, evaluate and develop their direct reports. Requirements Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in the field of Civil or Mechanical Engineering or Civil Engineering Technology; and a minimum of six years related experience and/or training; Licensed Professional Engineer Proficiency in Microsoft software programs such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint Proficient in AutoCAD Basic understanding of BIM The following competencies are needed to successfully perform this job: Ability to understand, customize and modify spreadsheets Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business documents, technical procedures, and government regulations Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedures Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, and customers Ability to comprehend documents such as blueprints and construction drawings Ability to apply concepts such as algebra, fractions, percentages, ratios, proportions, geometry, trigonometry, and interpolation to practical situations Ability to perform engineering analysis, such as load calculations, pressures, shear, moment, and deflection calculations Ability to work in a team environment Ability to interact with project personnel, clients, and Engineers Ability to define problems, gather data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions Ability to think outside of the box Baker is an EOE Disability/Veterans Employer.
