CC Young, a vibrant senior living community and a non-profit leader in senior living and Health Care is seeking Cook to join our team!

The primary purpose of this job position is to prepare food in accordance with current applicable federal, state, and local standards, guidelines and regulations, with our established policies and procedures, and as may be directed by the Head Cook, Team Leader and/or Director of Dining Service to assure that quality food service is provided at all times. Under the supervision of the Team Leader, is responsible for cold food preparation, including accompaniment and garnishes.

Job duties include, but are not limited to:

• General knowledge of food preparation and handling technique.
• General knowledge of safety and sanitation rules and practices.
• Has latitude to cope with some problems. Refers unusual problems to Supervisor/Manager.
• Responsible for cold food preparation, including accompaniments and garnishes.
• Correctly prepares and creatively assembles cold appetizers, salads, cold entrees, and desserts following preparation sheets and provided recipes for dining room service, healthcare center, cafeteria, and special functions.
• Prepares hot entrees, soups and vegetables following preparation sheets and provides recipes for dining room service, healthcare center, cafeteria, and special functions.
• Checks out team members when they have completed their pre/post shift duties.
• Does advance preparation as indicated.
• Serves food items as needed.
• Completes food temperature checks each meal. Tastes all food items prepared.
• Completes preparation records and stores food items properly at close of meal service.
• Cleans work area and equipment used in food preparation.
• Follows safety and sanitation rules and practices.
• Ensures that all cold food preparation and assembling is done in accordance with established procedures.
• Demonstrates knowledge of fire safety procedures and assists with evacuation of residents to a safe location in the event of fire or another emergency.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
• Cooperates with staff of other departments in performing job duties.
• Must take necessary precautions and follow correct procedures for lifting and bending.
• Able to work well independently given proper direction.
• Provides a clean, safe, and neat environment for residents, self and staff.
• Fully Complete Pre/Post Shift assignments daily.
• Come to work in FULL uniform including name tags.
• Have uniform wrinkle free.
• Good physical appearance: Clean shaved, in proper uniform, good hygiene
• Have a hospitality mind set: Smile, be polite.
• Have a “Can Do Attitude” and be a team player.
• Be on time for all shifts.
• Complete deep cleaning tasks weekly.
• Understand and know your schedule.
• Complete Showtime before each shift.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum qualifications include:

Physical Requirements

• Must be a minimum of eighteen (18) years of age.
• Capable of lifting up to twenty-five (25) pounds or more. Capable of standing and maneuvering independently and safely around work area. Able to stand on tile floor for eight (8) hour shift.
• Ability to see and hear, or to use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately to assure that position requirements can be fully met.
• Sufficient manual dexterity to operate a fire extinguisher and to manipulate kitchen equipment, including slicer, chopper, processor, knives, etc.

Personal Requirements

• Ability to read, write, speak and understand English. Ability to use simple math concepts; good communication skills; sound mental and physical health; ability to get along well with others, to demonstrate a high level of sensitivity and interest in people, especially older adults.

Education

• Minimum of high school education or equivalent preferred.

Experience

• Prior cooking experience in food service preferred.

Working Conditions

• Subject to moderate physical and emotional stress associated with food service. Performance of job tasks will involve exposure to cleaning chemicals requiring precautions.
