VARSITY ASSISTANT MEN'S VOLLEYBALL COACH

QUALIFICATIONS

Has the ability to organize and supervise a total sports program. Has previous successful coaching experience in assigned sport (preferable). Has substantial knowledge of the technical aspects of the sport and continues to examine new theories and procedures relevant to the field. Serves as an appropriate role model for student athletes through instruction and actions.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Has thorough knowledge of all athletic policies approved by the Rowan Salisbury Schools Board of Education and is responsible for their implementation by the team’s staff. Knows existing system, state and league regulations; implements consistently and interprets them for staff. Understands the proper administrative line of command and refers all requests or grievances through proper channels; attends required public/staff/departmental meetings.

STAFF RESPONSIBILITIES

Establishes the fundamental philosophy, skills and techniques to be taught by assistants; designs conferences, clinics and staff meetings to ensure staff awareness of the overall program. Trains and informs staff, encouraging professional growth through clinic attendance. Delegates specific duties and supervises implementation; at season's end, analyzes staff effectiveness and evaluates all assistants. Maintains discipline, adjusts grievances, and works to increase morale and cooperation. Performs other duties which may be assigned by the athletic director/principal.

ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES

Provides safeguards for maintenance and protection of assigned equipment and sites. Advises head coach and recommends policy, method or procedural changes.

STUDENT RESPONSIBILITIES

Serves as a mentor to each athlete, promoting trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring and citizenship. Gives constant attention to a student athlete's grades and conduct. Provides assistance, guidance and safeguards at all practices, games and while traveling. Provides training rules, schedule, calendar and any other unique regulations of the sport to each athlete (and their parents). Follows programs and policies concerning injuries, medical attention and emergencies. Directs student managers, assistants and statisticians. Assists athletes in college or advanced educational selection.

FINANCE, FACILITY AND EQUIPMENT

Is accountable for all equipment. Properly marks and identifies all equipment before issuing or storing. Monitors equipment rooms and coaches' offices, authorizes who may enter, issue or requisition equipment. Permits athletes to be only in authorized areas at the appropriate times. Examines locker rooms before and after practices and games; checks general cleanliness; responsible for maintenance of specific sport equipment and facilities. Instills respect for equipment and school property, its care and proper use.

PUBLIC RELATIONS

Promotes the sport within the school by recruiting athletes not involved in other sports and promotes the sport outside the school through media, Little League programs, or other feasible means. Maintains good public relations with news media, booster club, parents, officials, volunteers and fans.
