Job Title: Wound and Ostomy Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Wound and Ostomy Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Days Hours per Shift: 5x8 (6:45 am - 3:00 pm) Experience: Minimum of 2 years preferred License: Registered Nurse License Certifications: BLS, Wound and Ostomy Certification preferred Must-Have: Wound Care Certification Description: The Wound and Ostomy Registered Nurse establishes satisfactory interpersonal relationships with co-workers and colleagues, patients, families, and significant others. This nurse initiates communication with patients and families to determine individual needs. Communication with co-workers and colleagues in other disciplines and departments is essential for sharing and exchanging ideas and information. The nurse provides detailed patient education to patients and family members during the inpatient stay and at discharge, following prescribed teaching plans. They respond effectively, both verbally and non-verbally, to communications from patients, families, significant others, and health care team members. Ethical decisions and actions on behalf of patients are a priority, demonstrating sensitivity to the values of self and others. Involving patients and families in the plan of care by incorporating their cultural, spiritual, and other belief systems is fundamental. The position involves standing, walking, sitting, talking, hearing, and bending. May include some repetitive motions. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions without compromising patient care. The role requires the ability to prioritize and problem-solve collaboratively with the health care team. Effective communication in English, both verbally and in writing, is necessary. Good interpersonal and communication skills are essential for success in this position. A Bachelor’s Degree is required; a Master's Degree in Nursing is preferred. Minimum of 2 years of experience is preferred. NYS RN License and BCLS are required in specialty areas. Wound and Ostomy Certification is preferred.
