Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: Family Birthing Center (Labor and Delivery) Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12 Hour Days Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum of 2 years License: Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NRP, Advanced AWHONN Certification preferred, STABLE preferred Must-Have: Strong skills in emergency situations and ability to work independently. Description: The Family Birthing Center has 4 labor and delivery beds and 8 maternity beds. Ratios are 1:2 in labor and delivery, with 1:1 during active delivery, and 1:4 for couplets in maternal care. Clinical activities are performed using the Cerner electronic medical records system. Charge nurses generally do not take patients but may provide break relief. Weekend work is required every other weekend for both night and day shifts. Holiday scheduling will involve working two of the three major holidays, with final scheduling determined by unit managers. Travelers will not float to other units. No nurse aides are available on the unit. Two to three days of floor-specific orientation with a preceptor is provided. Common diagnoses include standard term and preterm deliveries and general gynecological patients. This unit typically manages 45 deliveries per month and does not handle high-risk cases. Newborns may require short-term oxygen or IV antibiotics. A respiratory therapist is present for every delivery. Pharmacy services are available from 0630 to 2200, with on-call support for urgent needs. Schedules are posted six weeks in advance with no self-scheduling available. Report is conducted at the bedside, and travelers have access to their schedules from home. The facility's closest sister hospital is located one hour away. The hospital can cancel up to four shifts per 13-week assignment.
