Job Title: Packaging/Labeling Equipment Operator

Job Description

This role operates and monitors packaging and labeling equipment in a food manufacturing environment, ensuring safe, efficient, and accurate production. You follow strict food safety and hygiene standards, perform equipment setup and data entry for product coding, and verify that all materials and labels meet specifications. You contribute to a clean, organized, and compliant production area while supporting high-quality output.

Responsibilities

• Adhere to all food manufacturing, safety, and hygiene requirements, consistently demonstrating excellent personal hygiene habits.

• Ensure a safe working environment by following good manufacturing practices and all plant safety procedures.

• Operate packaging and labeling equipment (PLE), including the accumulator, cap applicator, mead wrapper, cardboard packer, robot palletizer, and inkjet coder.

• Enter SKU, lot code, and expiration date information into coding and labeling equipment according to the specification sheet.

• Verify materials, codes, and labels to ensure they meet specifications, and accurately record required information on appropriate forms.

• Perform routine cleaning and maintenance of equipment in accordance with operation manuals and plant standard operating procedures (SOPs).

• Use RF scanning equipment to correctly scan and track all production materials and inventory.

• Handle materials and packaging components, including heavy lifting, to keep production lines supplied and running smoothly.

• Monitor equipment performance and product quality, promptly reporting issues or deviations to the appropriate personnel.

• Maintain neat, organized work areas and ensure proper documentation and follow-through on assigned tasks.

• Manage multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment while meeting production goals.

• Collaborate with team members and communicate effectively to support continuous operations and process improvements.

Essential Skills

• High school diploma or equivalent.

• Comfort working in a food manufacturing environment and following strict safety and hygiene standards.

• Previous manufacturing, production, or warehouse experience preferred.

• Ability to operate packaging machinery and material handling equipment.

• Strong attention to detail to ensure accurate coding, labeling, and documentation.

• Basic math skills for counting, measurements, and verification of product information.

• Basic written communication skills for completing forms and production records.

• Ability to use RF scanners for inventory and material tracking.

• Capability to perform heavy lifting and material handling tasks as part of daily duties.

• Demonstrated communication, organization, and listening skills.

• Ability to organize and handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.

• Computer literacy for data entry and operation of coding and labeling equipment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Previous experience in a manufacturing or warehouse setting is a plus.

• Experience with inventory processes and RF scanning systems is beneficial.

• Familiarity with packaging machines, robot palletizers, and inkjet coding equipment is an advantage.

• Strong follow-through and neatness in completing tasks and maintaining documentation.

• Comfort working in a full personal protective equipment (PPE) environment.

• Reliability and consistency in following standard operating procedures and safety guidelines.

Work Environment

This position is based in a manufacturing facility where you work in full personal protective equipment (PPE). The environment can become very hot, and you spend most of your time on or around production lines and packaging equipment. The role follows a fixed 2-2-3 schedule on either 1st shift (7:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.) or 2nd shift (7:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m.), and the shift you are hired for remains your permanent shift. Over a 14-day cycle, you work 7 days and have 7 days off, with Week 1 typically including Monday and Tuesday on, Wednesday and Thursday off, then Friday through Sunday on, and Week 2 including Monday and Tuesday off, Wednesday and Thursday on, then Friday through Sunday off. You work in a production-focused setting that requires consistent use of PPE, attention to safety, and comfort with extended shifts in a busy, physically active environment.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Savannah, GA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.46 - $21.46/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
