Details Acute care hospital setting within a 23-room Operating Room department Works with all surgical service lines except cardiovascular (CV) Handles cases in general surgery, neurology, orthopedics, urology, trauma, bariatrics, plastics, and transplant/organ donation Utilizes Cerner charting system (experience preferred) Uses specialized equipment including electrosurgical units, fiber optic light sources/cords, and Hana tables Alternating day shifts (4x10 hours), either 10:45 AM-9:15 PM or 12:45 PM-11:15 PM Weekend requirement of one shift per month On-call requirement of approximately one shift per week Occasional floating required within skill set, though rare Assignment length flexible from 13 to 26 weeks Requirements Active Illinois RN license in hand or in process required Minimum 2.5 years of Operating Room nursing experience required BLS certification required; CNOR and CST certifications preferred AHA and Red Cross certifications accepted; RQI certifications not accepted General OR and trauma experience required Level I trauma center experience required Experience required in general surgery cases (appendectomy, cholecystectomy, colon resection, hernia repair, laparoscopic procedures, mastectomy, thyroidectomy, Whipple) Experience required in neurology cases (cervical fusion, craniotomy, laminectomy/discectomy, lumbar fusion) Experience required in orthopedic cases (arthroscopy, carpal tunnel release, open/closed fracture reduction) Experience required in urology cases (cystoscopy, nephrectomy, prostatectomy) Experience required in trauma cases (amputations, gunshot/stab wounds, multi-injury MVA) Experience required in bariatric laparoscopic-assisted cases Experience required in plastics free flap microvascular procedures Experience required in emergency management protocols (code response, fire safety, latex allergy, malignant hyperthermia) Proficiency required in blood product administration, infection control, radiation safety, specimen handling/labeling, universal protocol (time out) procedure, and urinary bladder catheterization Previous travel nurse experience required No first-time travelers accepted SSN and DOB required for consideration Additional Information Facility is a 562-bed Magnet-designated, Level I trauma acute care hospital Scrubs provided for this role Floating required for all travelers, potentially including nearby affiliate facilities Must work 2 of the 3 major holidays Up to 5 non-holiday RTO days may be auto-approved; additional time off requires facility approval Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility to be eligible (local candidates not accepted for this specialty) Previous permanent or PRN employees of the facility must have been separated for at least 12 months before applying as a traveler Travel pairs are not accepted for this position First day of assignment is a virtual, at-home orientation requiring completion of assigned training modules American Traveler Job ID P-724903.
