Join our team today!Fleet Mechanic II PositionThe Town of Avon, Colorado, is accepting applications for a Fleet Mechanic II.The Fleet Mechanic II position performs preventative maintenance and repairs on a variety of vehicles and equipment [e.g., emergency vehicles (fire, ambulance, and police), transit buses, excavators, snowplows, dump trucks, mowers, 4WD trucks, and passenger vehicles] and on a range of systems [e.g. mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic]. Performs the work efficiently at an average annual billable ratio (hours divided by total hours worked) of at least 67% and a target goal of 80%.We offer an amazing work environment, supportive leadership, and outstanding benefits, including:Retirement match of 11%Life insuranceChildcare PriorityAvon Recreation Center passHealth, Rx, vision, and dental insurancePaid vacation, personal days, sick days, and holidaysSpanish Language InitiativeTown of Avon Culture and Values Our team operates on five core values:Public Service: We are committed to an effective, community-focused organization that passionately engages and serves our residents, property owners, businesses, and guests.Openness: We are open, transparent, complete, objective and respectful of opposing views with all Town officials and with the public in our decisions and actions.Leadership: We perform our work with commitment, passion, collaboration, fairness, honesty and courage to elevate our performance, the performance of our co-workers, and the character of our community.Integrity: We are professional, ethical, responsible and accountable in our decisions and actions.Stewardship: We are custodians and stewards of the Town's financial, physical, environmental and natural resources on behalf of current and future generations.Essential Functions:Evaluates the safety of vehicles and equipment and communicates this information to the fleet manager and/or customerPerforms preventative maintenance on vehicles and equipment, which includes some of the following:Diagnoses failures and repair malfunctions of electrical and mechanical systems or componentsManages fleet parts inventoryPerforms shop clean upSchedules fleet repair and maintenance with TOA departments and third partiesPrioritizes and processes work requestsResponds to road calls and performs field repairs as necessaryPick-up and delivery of vehicles and equipment throughout the rocky mountain regionInstructs, advises and assists other mechanics in diagnosing and repairing malfunctions on vehicles and equipmentCommunicates with suppliers and manufacturers about warranty work, recommended service activities, re-calls, etc.Complies with all TOA safety and health policies and procedures and monitors the Swift Gulch facility in order to promote a safe work environmentAnalyzes and diagnoses on-board electronics and computers using diagnostic data readers and laptop computers to include any of the following: ATEC, WTEC, DDEC 2, 3 and 4, ZF transmissions, automobile OBD IIOperates heavy equipment, plow trucks, fire trucks, police cars, sweepers, and busesOther Duties and Functions:Maintains and improves mechanical and electronic knowledge and skills with the constantly changing new technologyMaintains certification as a DOT Annual Vehicle Inspector or obtains certification within 6 monthsDetermines when to seek assistance from other mechanics or assist other mechanicsRequired Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:Training and/or experience to diagnose and repair emergency vehicles and associated onboard systemsTraining and/or experience to diagnose and repair Lift-U wheelchair lifts, Ricon wheelchair ramps and liftsTraining and/or experience to diagnose and repair fire truck pumps, valves and aerial laddersKnowledge, experience, and proficiency in cutting and welding various metalsKnowledge of basic mechanical and electrical systems; ability to problem solve and troubleshoot these systemsProficient with Avon's customized Fleet maintenance computer software FASTER (e.g., to open/close work orders, accurately document work performed and parts used, and insert comments.)Ability to complete defensive driving course within 6 months of hireAbility to keep and file accurate recordsAbility to communicate with good written and verbal communication skillsAbility to use two-way radios and computer software (MSEXCEL, MSWORD, MSOUTLOOK)Ability to read and interpret schematics and service manuals, utilizing books, computers and the internetAbility to meet attendance requirementsAbility to follow instructions to work efficiently with others as well as independentlyAbility to use small tools and operate small equipmentAbility to work in a safe mannerValid Colorado class B CDL with P2 and Air Brake endorsements driver's license or ability to obtain within 6 monthsCustomer service skillsCertification in CPR/First aidEducation and Experience: A high school diploma or equivalent required, such as an associate's degree or trade school degree with five (5) years of related experience working as an equipment and/or vehicle mechanic with heavy diesel engine experience required. Completion of mechanic apprentice coursework, with a minimum of 4,000 hours on-the-job training and 200 hours of classroom training or combined experience and training consistent with a mechanic apprentice program curriculum, and certification to utilize recycling/charging equipment for air conditioning. ASE certifications (4) or ASE Master Certification in Light Duty or Heavy Duty Vehicles and Equipment. ASE certified and DOT certified and maintains certifications in heavy-duty brakes required; EVT-I certified (for emergency vehicles) preferred.
