Associate Designer

Associate Designer, Men's Knitwear & Sweaters Location: New York, NY (Onsite Monday–Friday) Reports To: Design Director Position Overview Our client, a global sportswear company, is seeking an Associate Designer to support the design and development of Men's Knitwear and Sweater categories. This is an exciting opportunity for a creative and detail‑oriented designer looking to grow their career within a collaborative, fast‑paced environment. The ideal candidate will have experience in men’s apparel design, strong technical skills, and a passion for creating commercially successful products. Responsibilities Partner closely with the Design Director throughout the design and development process for Men’s Knitwear and Sweater categories. Support all stages of product creation, including trend and market research, concept development, sketching, fittings, and tech pack creation. Design commercially viable products that align with target customers, brand aesthetic, and pricing strategy. Conduct regular competitive shopping and market research through retail visits and online analysis. Create detailed sketches and technical drawings using Adobe Illustrator and other design software. Maintain and organize design materials, seasonal development information, and digital assets. Collaborate cross‑functionally with Product Development, Technical Design, Merchandising, and Sourcing teams. Participate in fittings and assist with product revisions and development follow‑up. Create and manage comprehensive tech packs across multiple seasons and product categories. Review and approve lab dips, knit downs, strike‑offs, development samples, and pre‑production submission. Attend design meetings, presentations, and seasonal reviews while documenting key action items and follow‑up tasks. Support seasonal presentations and contribute to creative discussions and product strategy. Travel domestically on occasion as business needs require. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Design, Apparel Design, or a related field. 3+ years of design experience, preferably within Men’s Knitwear, Sweaters, or related apparel categories. Strong understanding of garment construction, silhouettes, fabrication, yarns, knit structures, and stitch development. Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop. Experience creating technical flats, tech packs, and managing the product development process. Knowledge of 3D design tools and related technology is a plus. Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously. Excellent communication and presentation skills. Ability to collaborate effectively with cross‑functional partners and contribute to a team‑oriented environment. Strong aesthetic sensibility and understanding of both full‑price and value‑driven market segments. What We’re Looking For Creative thinker with a passion for menswear design.
