This is not a remote position. All work with students is performed at our center in Westport, CT

What We Do 

Freudigman & Billings uses an efficacious approach to standardized test preparation that is influenced by the founders’ collective experience working in cognitive science at Yale University. Our method was formulated based on years of working within the public school system to help develop and research effective models for aligning student evaluation with school curriculum. 

The Freudigman & Billings approach teaches critical thinking, applied reasoning, and problem solving strategies. We help students understand fundamental principles about how the world of information is organized and how they can interact with that information. This process does not involve the rote memorization of vocabulary or inundation of practice questions that many associate with “test prep.” Instead, we focus on teaching students effective strategies for gathering, sequencing, categorizing, and classifying information from text and visual sources. These processes contribute to a student’s ability to reason, solve problems, make inferences, and draw conclusions. No prior experience teaching the SAT or ACT needed - we will train you!

• Predictable hours at a single office location: Almost always, our work with students takes place at our 11,000 square foot headquarters in Westport, CT. Students are encouraged to utilize our space not only to see their instructors, but to do homework, hang out with friends, have a snack, get some advice, or even catch a quick nap during finals week. Instructors are provided with a private classroom, a whiteboard, and all materials necessary for a productive session. No unpaid time as you drive from house to house!

Our team of Directors have PhDs, Masters degrees, and other certifications to help you achieve your goals and help you gain mastery of your own instructional techniques. • Administrative support: We have a full time team that handles scheduling, billing, inventory and printing of materials, and administration and scoring of practice exams.

• Great pay: $67,000 - $75,000 salary based on experience.

 

What You’ll Do

• Teach!
• Collaborate with the Test Prep Leadership Team in order to generate and execute specific plans for each student. All of our work is customized and tailored to the individual student.
• Interact with instructors from different departments, including Educational Therapy, Academic Instruction, and College Advising, in order to provide coordinated support for students in your cohort
• Assist the Director with the development of Test Prep curriculum and other special projects aligned with the philosophy and goals of the department
• Work 12:30am to 9pm Monday through Thursday, and 11am to 7:30pm on Sundays

 

The individuals who we typically hire for this role:

• Have tutoring experience or an interest in pursuing a career in the field of education
• Understand that while this is primarily a Test Prep position, most instructors carry a small volume of Subject Tutoring sessions
• Demonstrate exceptional written and verbal communication skills, show attention to detail, and exhibit the drive help students succeed
• Enjoy building relationships with students and respond to the needs of teenagers in a fast-paced environment

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s Degree, with an undergraduate transcript that demonstrates mastery within your field of study
• Computer savvy, exceptional communication skills, and attention to detail
• Ability to thrive and demonstrate confidence in a fast-paced environment
• Ability to pass a background check
• Reliable transportation
