Bronx EOC Adjunct Lecturer - Master Barber Program FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT Educational Opportunity Centers (EOC) provide academic instruction, vocational training, and support to educationally and economically disadvantaged adults. EOC Lecturers perform teaching and related faculty functions in area(s) of expertise, including student advisement, curriculum development, and activities to advance the Centers' educational goals. The Master Barber Program provides 300 instructional hours, including an approved HIV course to prepare adult students for the official New York State Licensing Master Barber Exam. Instructions include theory and practice in the following courses: Barbering orientation, Safety, and Health, Bacteriology, Decontamination & Infection Control, Properties and Disorders of the Skin, Scalp, and Hair, Shampoos, Rinses, Conditioners and Treatments, Haircutting and Shaping, Hairstyling, Hair Coloring, Artificial Hair Procedures, Anatomy and Physiology, Chemistry as Applied to Barbering, and Professional Requirements. The program also includes modules to assist the students in signing up for the official state licensing practical exam, job placement assistance, and how to start a small business. Responsibilities: Instructs, manages and supervises students in the classroom. Teaches a variety of courses in cut, groom, style, and shaving of beards while lecturing on the theory, techniques, and terminology used in the cosmetology profession Organizes a program of practical and technical instruction, including demonstrations of skills used by hairstylists and barbers in the beauty industry Prepares lesson plans for clinical instructions, instructional lesson plans, and assembles materials to be presented Evaluate the student's understanding of the learning objectives via careful performance and execution of the hands‑on activities Maintains desirable classroom conditions with a student‑oriented approach each the art of barbering and men's hairstyling Follow provided lesson plans for theory and practical curricula Prepare students to pass the New York State practical and written board examinations for licensure Oversee client services to ensure proper protocols are being followed Record and maintain daily attendance Record and enter student grades and classroom work Other duties as assigned QUALIFICATIONS Five (5) years or more as a licensed master barber Experience working in a career training learning environment Experience working with a diverse student population Demonstrated experience as a small business owner.
