Health Information Technician

We are seeking a detail-oriented Health Information Technician to provide administrative support for medical records and health information. This position reviews and organizes medical documentation, prepares charts and forms, maintains records, compiles statistical reports, and ensures required information is complete and accurate. The ideal candidate will have strong administrative skills, medical front-office experience, and proficiency with Microsoft Excel.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

• Review and organize medical reports and records for completeness and accuracy.
• Review charts to ensure required reports, signatures, and documentation are present.
• Prepare charts and health information forms for new admissions.
• Complete forms and requests for reports or certificates.
• Compile statistical reports, including census, admissions, discharges, and length-of-stay information.
• File and maintain medical records and related documentation.
• Enter and maintain information in logs and filing systems.
• Retrieve health information records as needed.
• Provide health information when requests are determined to be appropriate.
• Coordinate with other departments regarding medical record procedures.
• Proofread medical documentation and identify errors or missing information.
• Maintain confidentiality of patient health information.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Minimum of 2 years of administrative experience, preferably in a medical front-office or medical administrative setting.
• Strong administrative and organizational skills.
• Strong Microsoft Excel skills.
• Knowledge of medical terminology.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
• Ability to review, organize, and maintain detailed documentation.
• Ability to identify errors and missing information in medical records.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to handle confidential information appropriately.
• Previous health information or medical records experience preferred.

Education & Experience

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Two or more years of relevant administrative experience, preferably in a medical front-office environment.
