The role involves caring for endoscopy and interventional radiology patients. There are no weekend, holiday, or on-call requirements. The average daily census for this unit is between 70 to 90 patients, with a capacity of 38 patient bays. This position requires working with adults, occasional adolescents, and geriatric populations in a Level I Trauma Center. Surgical patients covered include those undergoing neurosurgery, ENT, plastics, orthopedics, thoracic, vascular, trauma, general, colorectal, gynecological, urological, electrophysiology, interventional radiology, and transplant procedures. Open heart surgeries and liver transplants are not included in the recovery responsibilities. The unit operates 24/7 and requires staff to recover a variety of high-acuity post-operative patients. Experience with artificial airways, invasive monitoring, transfusions, and vasoactive medications is required. Candidates must be proficient in preoperative assessment and education, starting and maintaining IVs, and EKG rhythm analysis. The unit has an interdisciplinary support team, including respiratory services and rapid response teams. All travelers will float within the service line as needed. Compliance with specific skill requirements is mandatory, including experience with drains and mechanical ventilation. Candidates must also demonstrate recovery experience from general anesthesia and high-acuity inpatient PACU and ICU settings.
