Clinical Trials Charge Review Specialist

Clinical Trial Billing Specialist As a Clinical Trial Billing Specialist, you will support the University of Arizona and Banner clinical trials across multiple specialties, including Cardiac, Oncology, Neurology, and Orthopedics. You are responsible for maintaining billing compliance by reading payer coverage analyses, dividing patient charges between sponsor‑paid and patient‑paid procedures, and interpreting contracts, budgets, and tracking systems to determine clinical trial coverage according to Medicare guidelines. Schedule: Remote, Monday‑Friday 8:00am – 4:00pm with occasional team meetings at Banner Alzheimer’s Institute (BAI) located in Phoenix. The position is primarily remote. Responsibilities Audit daily charges in Med Series 4 (MS4), NextGen, and nThrive. Match, correct, and transfer charges that are paid for by the clinical trial sponsor. Monitor queries (SQRSL) that capture errors prior to billing and respond to requests from the Clinical Trial Coordinators, Central Billing Office (CBO), Ambulatory Billing Office (ABO), Patient Financial Services (PFS), and Research Finance. Review patient records, dictated reports, and physician/provider notes for clinical trial information. Use the Protocol, Payer Coverage Analysis, Budget, and Clinical Trial Management Systems for proper review. Troubleshoot billing issues with private insurances and Medicare. Work with CBO, ABO, and PFS to ensure billing compliance and correct claims. Research missing and incompatible record information supplied by medical staff, transcriptionists, suppliers, and others. Ensure that all appropriate items, procedures, and services are recorded and billed correctly. Identify opportunities for improvement in clinical trial compliance. Provide customer service to Clinical Trials Finance and clinician staff. Maintain current knowledge of procedural terminology requirements and provide updates to the team. Work as a member of the clinical trial finance team to provide services and achieve goals. Manage billing issues, participate in compliance and education opportunities, and ensure Medicare compliance throughout the entire billing process. Work under regular supervision and with other charge review staff to maintain consistency in practice across Banner Research. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge. Work effectively with Banner’s billing systems: Med Series 4 (MS4), NextGen, and nThrive. Two or more years of related work experience in a clinical, medical office, or acute care unit, with knowledge of medical terminology. Strong research, reading, interpreting, and communication skills, as well as effective interpersonal, organizational, and team‑working abilities. Preferred Qualifications Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) coding experience in a similar setting. Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) or Certified Professional Coder (CPC) credentials preferred.
