Position Summary
The Low Voltage Fiber Splicer is responsible for splicing, testing, troubleshooting, and supporting fiber optic infrastructure in commercial construction and low voltage environments. This role requires strong fusion splicing experience, attention to detail, and the ability to interpret project drawings while maintaining high-quality workmanship and safety standards on active job sites.
Responsibilities
• Perform fusion splicing on single-mode and multimode fiber optic cabling
• Prepare, splice, terminate, and test fiber optic cables in commercial environments
• Perform OTDR testing, light level testing, and troubleshoot fiber connectivity issues
• Install, route, label, and manage fiber optic cabling according to project specifications
• Read and interpret blueprints, fiber matrices, schematics, and splice diagrams accurately
• Support backbone fiber installations, rack builds, and communication infrastructure projects
• Install and support low voltage systems
• Maintain accurate splice documentation and testing records
• Assist with retrofits, upgrades, and system modifications on existing sites
• Maintain jobsite cleanliness, professionalism, and safety compliance at all times
• Follow OSHA 10 guidelines and company installation standards
Requirements
• 2+ years of commercial fiber optic installation and fusion splicing experience
• Fusion splicing experience required
• Experience with OTDR testing and fiber certification equipment
• Ability to read and interpret splice diagrams, blueprints, and construction drawings
• Experience with hand tools, power tools, and fiber testing equipment
• Basic computer and smartphone proficiency for reporting and communication
• Comfortable using Microsoft Office 365 (Word, Excel, Outlook)
• Valid driver's license with clean driving record
• OSHA 10 Certification required
• High School Diploma or GED (or equivalent experience)
Preferred Qualifications
• Mechanical splicing experience
• Ribbon splicing experience
• Experience in data center or commercial construction environments
• Familiarity with structured cabling and low voltage infrastructure
• Experience leading small crews or mentoring junior technicians
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities
Physical Requirements
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
• Ability to climb ladders and work in elevated or small spaces
• Ability to stand, kneel, crouch, and work with tools for extended periods
• Comfortable working in active construction environments
