Job Description Security Officer USD 497 Job Details Position Type: Full-Time Salary: $20.40 to $20.40 Per Hour Starting Date: Aug 3, 2026 FTE: 1.0 Hours/Day: 8.0 Days/Year: 186 Purpose Statement The job of Security Officer is performed to identify potential problems regarding welfare, safety and/or security of students, personnel, visitors and/or the site; maintain safety at the school site by enforcing disciplinary policies and regulations; communicate information and respond to inquiries; and provide emergency care to students and other individuals. Essential Functions Administers first aid to provide immediate emergency medical care. Assists with environmental conditions to maintain a safe, clean, and orderly campus. Assists community law enforcement in completing their work activities within the school environment. Collaborates with other agencies (law enforcement, community professionals, etc.) to communicate and/or receive information regarding situations that may affect safety. Communicates school policies and enforcement procedures to students, personnel and visitors to ensure understanding and potential consequences of violations. Escorts assigned personnel, students and/or documents to provide direction, ensure safety and offer security for persons and/or sensitive information. Investigates potential campus crimes and/or student‑related incidents to resolve conflicts and/or refer to outside agencies. Patrols school facilities (grounds, roads, buildings, adjacent areas, etc.) to provide visibility, maintain security and deter crime. Prepares documentation (incident and activity reports, security logs, etc.) to provide written support and/or convey information. Provides security during assigned extra‑curricular activities to ensure a safe environment. Responds to emergency situations to address immediate safety concerns. Supervises students in detention programs within the security department to ensure completion of assigned tasks. Testifies in court proceedings and school administrative actions to provide information and document illegal activity. Transports students needing on‑ or off‑campus transport (e.g., sick children, students removed for disciplinary reasons) to their required destination. Other Functions Assists other personnel to support them in completing their work activities. Job Requirements – Minimum Qualifications Skills, Knowledge and Abilities SKILLS: Adhere to safety practices; operate equipment; prepare and maintain accurate records. KNOWLEDGE: Perform basic math (fractions, percentages, ratios); read manuals; write documents following prescribed formats; present information; analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions; understand pertinent policies, codes, regulations, and laws. ABILITY: Schedule activities, meetings, or events; gather and collate data; use basic job‑related equipment; collaborate with diverse groups; maintain confidentiality; interact effectively with students; adhere to district policies; attend regularly except when allowed leave; solve problems by analyzing issues and creating action plans. Experience Job‑related experience is required. Education High school diploma or equivalent. Certificates Valid Driver’s License and Evidence of Insurability.
